I'd like to look into what others are listening to, so as to further expand my music reviewing skills.
I listen to a lot of music, but some of my favorite listening this past year was Radiohead's new and old stuff.
I like some of the top 100 songs, but I think they're overplayed.
I also really enjoy Edward Maya and Vika Jigulina from Romania. Their song Stereo Love was huge in Tampa Bay. They've got a big following in the area.

I never tire of Radiohead - new or old. I actually like the remix album this time a bit better than the original, but perhaps they're still just so far ahead of the curve that it's going to take me awhile to fully appreciate The King of Limbs. Regardless, I'm going to try to see them in April. They're always a great live show, and they are finally playing a different venue here in Seattle, instead of the huge amphitheater they've played the last couple times. I'm looking forward to it!
It's an evolving arrangement of music. I think I hear it differently each time and love it more.
They will be here at the end of Feb. at a large venue in Tampa. It's their second stop after Miami.
I also have been listening to Kate Bush's 50 Words for Snow released late last year. It's very lush, evocative.

Black Keys, Mumford and Sons, Florence + The Machine, Death Cab for Cutie, Amos Lee, Broken Bells
You're the second person to mention both the Black Keys and Mumford & Sons. Not to mention I've heard a lot about Florence and the Machine. I know you mentioned someone else.....I've got my homework cut out for me!
There was a time not too long ago I promised myself I would never become "old" and stop listening to new music. I've always loved music.
But then, something changed.
I don't honestly think it was that I got old and closed my ears to new music, but the music that started coming out has gotten really shallow and overproduced and just stooooopid.
Wracking my brain to think of exceptions.
I thought of 2.5
1. Katy Perry. I love the juxtaposition of her strict upbringing and demure presence (in interviews) with her suggestive (ahem!) lyrics and kicky style.
2. Lada Gaga. For sheer "What's she gonna come out in tonight?" shock/entertainment value, LG's a studette. But isn't she simply this decade's Madonna? That mold was cast in the 80s. She's just taken it to new extremes. But the style of song and the boy dancers -- straight out of Material Girl.
3. And the .5 is for Amy Winetraub. May she finally rest in peace. Now there was a musician worth listening to.
I'm right there with you with regard to the overproduced music that Billboard subjects us too these days. Thankfully we have the internet. It just takes a little more work to find some really cool stuff! I use YouTube like old school MTV that allows you to pick your own videos. Takes me back to the good old days, that's for sure.
Props to you for finding anything positive to say amidst all the auto-tuning!
These guys are headlining Coachella this year, so they have to be good! I will check em out - even though I've known I should for quite some time..... ;-)
Thanks.
Well, yeah. Chopin is great to practice with.....
Adam Lambert was the artist I played a bunch in 2011. I also like Ke$ha's song, because they are so catchy.
My mom keeps trying to get me into Adam Lambert - I think she wanted me to be him or something. I can recognize his talent, but I'm unsure about some of the advisors he's worked with. I think he's got the possiblity to take control and grow into his own, and really surprise us.
I have not heard of Mutemath, thanks for the heads up! I will investigate for sure.
I've heard a lot of talk about Adele, but haven't had the time to really sit down with her album and check it out properly. Given what I have heard, she is the kind of artist I'd want to pay attention to.
Hm... This might be too much, but in my list I have Lizz Wright, Rachelle Ferrell, Lara Fabian, Tori Amos, Björk, Dulce Pontes, Radiohead, Muse, Musica Nuda and Antony and the Johnsons. If you actually bother checking this out, I guess you could start by Antony and the Johnsons and Musica Nuda. Both are pretty unique bands, and the last one is still mostly unknown outside of just a couple of European countries.
Carolina Liar I love his voice and let him know - he's right up there next to the voice of our late Freddy Mercury of Queen
John Grant, I saw him play in Galway last summer it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to...

What do you think of screamy music??
by Travis_S_Music 14 years ago
I love all kinds of music. As of late though, I haven't had much to do with it. So I'm curious to see what everyone likes, what music they listen to most, and what artist or composer is their favorite? List as much as you like! (:

I've been listening to them for the past 2 years and have enjoyed every album. Something about their sound is just so perfect. That's just me, what do you guys think?
