What One Song Do You Think Represents Michael Jackson and His Legacy?

   I think "Man In The Mirror" represents Mike best. He was about everything good. He wanted people to change their thinking and behaviors. This would change how people treat each other and the environment.

            It's sad all of the negative comments that have been left. I agree that the situation with the young boys should not be swept under the rug, but Michael did so much for the music industry; he revolutionized the Music Video, and he was huge on philanthropic efforts. Is the molestation case truly how everyone remembers Mike?

               Sadly in many people's eyes they will always see the negatives of Michael Jackson- the child molestation, the hilarity of a man who's best friend was a chimpanzee, holding his own child over a hotel balconey,the issues he had with cosmetic surgery and his constantly changing skin pigmentation.

      I think the song "Smile" best represents Michael Jackson and his legacy. He didn't have a normal childhood. It was obvious he needed help and with so many supposed close friends, they couldn't even get through to him. I think all he wanted, was to like who he was and he couldn't find that. It's unfortunate that we can't answer the question with out bringing up how tortured this man was.

   In terms of his music I see that Thriller will be the one track that will develop into a true classic in the age of music television and Youtube music has changed to be a visual art and the music video is a true work of art
   
   I'm not sure i'd agree with your "He was about everything good" with the accusations of child abuse although I think alot of people have forgot those very quickly. It's 'Diana syndrome' all over again!

   I would say "Billie Jean", the part that says "Billie Jean's not my lover, she's just a girl who claims that I am the one, but the kid is  not my son" sort of  represents the scandals Michael has had regarding possible child molestation.

   I think there are few things to consider in this question. Michael had many facets to him. The documentary film "This Is It" did a great job of highlighting this.
   
   I would say that the dance track that best represents his legacy is Billie Jean. Seeing Michael Jackson perform this song for the first time on television for the Motown 25 Special was an awesome experience. This gave us our first glimpse of him doing the moonwalk. 
   
   When I look at his videos, I must say that his legacy, like it or not will always be Thriller because it totally shaped the way music videos were made after that. I can still remember the premiere of this video on MTV. There was absolutely nothing like it.
   
   As someone else mentioned, when I look at his wish to help so many, I would say "Man in the Mirror" gave us some insight to his soul.
   
   I could go on, however this is my response to the question of Michael Jackson's legacy.

   And all the molested children stayed silent.
   
   If in the next few years they all come forward demanding huge sums of money for their story, then I think Michael Jackson will be more or less canonized.
   
   I have no idea what went on, but did think it was highly suspicious that a grown man, which he was even if he didn't look it, wanted to share his bed with so many minors.
   
   That said, I more or less grew up with Michael Jackson.
   
   I remember his Jackson 5 days before he made it big on his own.
   
   Before the pedophile accusations came about, I was proud to say I saw him perform live.
   
   After his death, I am prepared to forgive, if only because none of his accusers actually came forward at the end of the day.
   
   If they were all so easily bought off, they weren't damaged at all.
   
   That's like me saying, you raped me but give me $1M and we'll forget all about it.
   
   He paid out a Hell of a lot more than that.
   
   Takes you right back to the old question, would you have sex with someone you didn't know for a million dollars.
   
   Damned right you would!

       I'm sure I posted already on this thread, but I can't be bothered going looking, but tonight I will say that my earliest song memories of Michael Jackson was of him singing 'Rocking Robin', but I was too young to go the dancing then.
       
       My lasting memory has probably got to be of him dancing in Thriller.
       
       But my best memory was hearing him perform live in my home city of Glasgow where he performed an open air concert so loud that could be heard at my home 3 miles away from the venue.
       
       I was a taxi driver at the time, and parked my taxi on a rank about 200 yds away, and danced and laughed and had so much fun!!
       
       I'm sure everyone thought I was a nutter, but hey! caught! can't deny it LOL

    I liked "Earth Song" more than anything else, though I like many others. That one to me is his most committed piece.
    
    History will probably forget whatever he was accused of (look at all the vaunted kings and emperors and warlords in history). The accusations taint his legacy, but I think only for those of us who were made to doubt. He was never convicted, and, as I think most of us would want were we to be accused of something and not be convicted of it in the legal system, he should be left alone. History will leave him alone anyway, so projecting our outrage towards deeds we can't prove were committed on him really only undermines our justice system (not saying its perfect, but it's better than elsewhere, as I have been made to understand).

    I think in the remembrance of his legacy/celebration of his final end in his reign of terror in the music world..."Ha Ha You're Dead" by Green Day pretty much sums up my feelings and thoughts.
    Even though I extremely dislike his musical style and his way to get attention with his "we must save the children" stuff, i guess to remember him and to encompass his legacy i'd go with his very own "Speechless" which happens to be the only song he ever recorded that i heard and enjoyed.

    Enough with all the "significant" songs MJ was, amongst other things, a great R&B and Rock performer.  How about Thriller ...... but really "I Want You Back"
