      No question. Also after handling food, or going to the grocery store or touching anything in public. I learned to do this while I was working as a massage therapist. I have not had a single cold since beginning the practice. Hot as I can stand it water, and wash for as long as it takes to sing "Happy birthday to you. "

   Yes, every time; and each time before and after I prepare food and after eating (prevents cross contamination, etc.). After sneezing if I block it with my hand as well, and before and after using keyboards at public computing places. Have not had a cold in years and never had the flu in my life, gratefully.

   Normally, but I find if I'm down the pub, the drunker I get the less important it becomes. 
   
   And after visiting the bathroom is pretty much the only time I do, I'll handle raw meat, chemicals whatever and then lick jam off my fingers, yummy!
   
   A little bit of grime does you good (possibly).

   Absolutely, unfortunately I work with computers in a hospital, so i seem to wash my hands and apply alcohol gel more oftern than i actually do my job! Oh well!

   Yep big hand washer here .
   Does make you wonder though all the places we touch ,maybe you can think of more.
   Shopping carts
   Shopping counters/checkout/racks/products/doors
   Hand-rails
   Bus seats
   Money/coins
   Door handles/knobs
   Telephones
   Library books
   Mail
   
   Guess its more the proportion of bugs and some is fine.

   I wash my hands after doing a lot of things. Keyboards apparently contain more germs than a toilet!
   
   I also wash after petting animals too, seeing as I have a killer cat that hunts anything that moves and probably has all sorts of nasty germs.

    Yes, each and every time.  I also wash for many other activities, such as food preparation, before and after meals, and anything to do with animals, gardening, cleaning or shopping.

    Always and tis disgusting if you dont. In my work we work the odd Saturday ok and usually somebody makes tea and brings it in those small plastic cups. Anyways I go for a Jimmy Riddle ( irish for pee ) and one of the guys I work with is in full flow, doncha just love graphic detail. Anyways out he walks as I clean my hands and as I am sitting down later I see him walking towards me with his hands fully wrapped round two plastic cups of tea. He turns to me and says " Heres a cup of tea for you Art"....Hands up if you guessed my 2 letter reply

          If I avoided public bathrooms, I would have to wear Depends. When dixie whistles, I goota go!! Always wash hands for at least 20 seconds, paper dry (not on pants), and then use that paper to open the door to leave the bathroom. Bathroom door handles are loaded with germs.

       Ummm, do you think you could just use a piece of toilet paper over your hand to do that from now on? Or even your elbow? Because some people aren't so paranoid about touching a toilet handle, and what you are exposing others to is really disgusting...

    Since getting the cast taken off my forearm on Wednesday, I can now wash my hands properly.  The cast came halfway up my hand, with a hole for the thumb, and it was impossible to do more than run my fingers under the tap and try not to get the dressing wet. 
    Now I can soap my hands properly. . . LUXURY.

    Yes, and I also wash my hands after I am outside with the dogs, before I make dinner, after dinner etc. I am a nurse and it is habit.

    Washing my hands is compulsory i have been told that i have a problem though although I wouldn,t agree I am constantly washing my hands around every 10 mins exept when i am at work then i have to wait till breaks though it kills me to think I have to wait that long.....jimmy

       I also had a problem with washing my hands a lot years ago. The skin started coming off my hands. If you do wash your hands a lot, you should actually use a mild soap or moisturizing bar (a lot like soap).
       
       Now I don't do it as much, and I always have a bottle of hand sanitizer. You can get bottles that are small enough to carry around, but I don't. Wet Wipes are also good.

    hell yes and I carry sanitizer with me.  I use it after I shake hands with people.  I have driest hand in the history of the world from doing this.  My hands look 105 years old. Who do you know that doesn't wash their hands after going to the bathroom???? Naughty!!

       Me also, it is important I think for the hygiene. it surprise me that so many people use the tissue, and donnot wash hands after touching. Then they leave all over place. This can easily affect other people.
