Just saw this in the new layout! So exciting! Wish I could sign up but can't right now - not enough time to do a good job. But does anyone know how to find out how long the waiting list is already?

Good question! I suspect that the list is rather long at the moment - 30 to be accepted into the program soon - 49,000 or more on the waiting list!

Noooooo . . . seriously! Is there a way to find out that I'm unaware of? Can't be 49K on the list - didn't this just come out yesterday?

I saw someone with a  tag on his avatar yesterday saying something about the program but didn't know what it was at the time.

There is no list -but I would suspect the number will be in the hundreds at the very least!

          There is a list:

          http://hubpages.com/learningcenter/Appr … ip-Program

Guess it's probably best just to sign up and see what happens but it would be nice to know where you stand so you can prepare.

I meant there isn't a published waiting list - it does say "If you are placed on the waiting list, you will be informed of which month you will be able to begin"

Thank you for trying to respond, SimeyC . . . but it would still be nice to know!  If there's 49,000 on the list then I can feel free to sign up and forget about it.  But if there are only 60, well then I know two months from now I better be somewhat prepared - know what I mean? Somehow I can't imagine hundreds of people signing up though - it sounds pretty rigorous.

I was told to reapply in six months - so that's a pretty good indicator to me how long the list is.  Oh well, I'll pursue other things then as I doubt I'll still be interested that far down the road wink lol.

I received my Apprenticeship blow-off today, and I doubt very much if I'm going to re-apply in six months as suggested.  I don't need the money, either.  I have a pension, and it takes care of the bills.  And while I waited for an answer, I found an experienced writer/online publisher who has already helped me with all the online basics, and under her guidance, it will take me less than six months to learn.  Doors close, doors open.

Yep, even though I said I wanted to withdraw my application, they still sent me an email saying to reapply in 6 months.  lollollol

And I so wanted to put my "brand" out there!  tongue

I'm tempted to apply with some of my other names to see if they get knocked back!

If the plan is to get round everybody, and offer this course to everyone eventually, then folks shouldn't have to apply twice.

I won't remember when six months are up, and it is highly unlikely if other folk will either.

They should consider having a database of applicants, no refusals, simply an invitation when the time in right, even if it is a year or two down the road.

Th sounds sensible. Ask for applications, then tell us when we are scheduled to start.

Just inviteus in. Don't make us feel like applicants at a job interview, portfolio in hand.

        Maybe thats the idea.....

Personally, I would choose people with staying power and fine-tune the skills that they already have.  And most of you have shown that.  Loyalty means a lot.  At least it does to me.

    1. WryLilt profile image88
WryLiltposted 12 years agoin reply to this

I've found loyalty doesn't mean a lot when it comes to making money online smile

You're right about staying power though. Many people assume that they can write five hubs and earn hundreds of dollars.

    2. IzzyM profile image86
IzzyMposted 12 years agoin reply to this

Like Randy, I saw success cruelly snatched away on Google's whim, yet it strangely hasn't put me off.

Well it did for a while, sort of. I  had really needed the money and tried to compensate for the loss of traffic by writing a series of higher than normal quality of hubs, trying to get back in Google's good books.

It didn't work. Starting new subdomains did, however, and although my traffic has not yet returned to its previous level (across all my accounts) it is showing a promising upturn on all accounts except this one.

Now I just write for the love of it. If it makes me money too, that's great, but if it doesn't, I have nothing to lose.

As for staying power, why would I want to leave when this site, or people on this site (other hubbers actually, not the staff) have taught me so much about how to write for the search engines?

Plus there is a great community here if you stay out of the politics/religious forums smile

There you go, WryLit!  You can't bank on a newbie.  Many of them bail when they figure out that you have to WORK at the writing and everything else to make money.  With newbies, you don't even have a crystal ball to help you out.  They can bail at any time, and it's usually when they find out that online money doesn't come easy.  And the yacht, the mansion and the foreign bank account will have to wait!  Yuck, yuck, yuck.

Does that mean if I already have a yacht, mansion, and foreign bank account, I shouldn't be writing anymore?  yikes

Not much else to do here until HP straightens out the new formats.  I don't want to waste my time publishing my already written hubs here until I find out if they are going to use the same ugly formatting on all hubs.  sad

Oh, hell no, Randy!  You are going to write because you want to.  I've been here nine months, and I've seen a lot of people leave.  Yes, you can earn money here, but it's not what most people have in mind.  They are truly disappointed and tend to waltz away.  Yeah.  In fact, I've cleared away some space for my yacht, and the neighbor on that side is pissed off.

Yes, you are right, Arlene.  I only write now because I want to.  Certainly not at the promise of earnings which can disappear literally overnight.  I cannot imagine a more boring thought than to have to take lessons from HP staff. yikes
