Would Jesus Support Evolution?

If Jesus were to read the book, "On The Origin of Species", do you think He would understand it and support it or reject it?

If the mountains of evidence for evolution were presented to Him, would He accept the evidence as valid or reject it out of hand?

An interesting 'what if' question.  I would imagine that Jesus would be completely taken aback by the conclusion of Evolutionary Biology.  After all, Jesus lived 2,000 years ago and knew very little of what we know today. Given the information available to him at the time, there is no way Jesus could even comprehend things that we take for granted such as natural selection and extinctions of many species.

Probably not. He was a product of his times, so he would have been as ignorant and superstitious as everyone else in Judea then.

    Don't know.

Is He still out there, flinging cosmic rays at particular genes to change them?  Does He force particular animals/plants to reproduce, choosing exactly which cells combine to form a new life?  Is He controlling the environment to the nth degree, killing the weak while forcing the strong to survive and reproduce?

If yes, He would probably laugh at the audacity of Charles to think that it is all from natural causes.  If not, and He is letting nature take its course, He would agree.

I'd be surprised if Jesus even heard of the creation story. No one knows if he was literate or not. If he existed in the 20th century, I'm sure he would believe in evolution since the Jews started to dismiss creation as far back as the 12th century.

Well I guess he wouldn't waste his time on senseless controversies as they only cause division. He knows the truth so there is no argument.

You are obviously trying to score some points here. If we say Jesus would accept evolution, then you can laugh at the silly Christians. If we say he's a creationist, then you can laugh at the silly Jesus.

We can say that although evolution poses the most logical conclusion that best fits the observation from our human point of view, Jesus is above the argument, as he knows what he did.

What makes you think that Jesus knows about any of this? There's hardly any evidence that supports Jesus' existence. Although I do believe he existed and was a rabbi preaching the teachings of John the Baptist and that's it. As far as being the son of God and the miracle worker, not buying it. Too much fiction and myth with no backup. It was like saying the Titanic was unsinkable even thought the engineers, builders, and the owners knew otherwise. It was the media that was behind that. Just like Paul was behind the wild stories of Jesus even though they never met.

Well that's just lovely Paul, but the question was about Jesus and therefore it is expected that anyone who posed an answer would answer from the point of view of their understanding of who Jesus is. If you want to discuss who Jesus is rather than the original question then perhaps you would like to open a new topic.

Jesus kept referring to the past, what was already written, and what the prophets had to say. Not a lot of evolutionary thinking there but more an attempt to say it was all already ordained and he was proof of it!

Well now, since this is a "what if" bit, let's have a go and loosen up our thinking, yes?

What if, this man was/is the precise semblance of the next stage of human evolution. A man thoroughly tuned into nature, gravity, species, intellect -a form balanced between  raw energy and collective energy titled nature.

What if, by his actions, dubbed the miraculous, was simply displaying  natural human ability before and after that evolving -that transformation. It would certainly explain those occurrences, those events and the purpose of them.

What if those 12 men, from physician to fisherman were purposely selected to observe and report these events, as evidence of that evolutionary beginning -that description of the natural selection, natural order of human existence.

What if, when he states one seed must die to produce a massive harvest, he was in fact hinting, explaining precisely that evolutionary  inception.

From a general time frame, +/- 746,425 days later, men would gather to discuss what is naturally about to occur -that evolution commence in full. As if nature is pushing out human ignorance -every last possible drop of  toxins of mysticism and mechanics- to the very edge of thought, of consciousness, of self and reason, as to remove these hindrances forever and usher in that natural change in them.

Of course he would believe it. For one, he was obviously intelligent, so he would hardly be inclined to dismiss the incontrovertible evidence. Secondly, if we assume for a moment that he was actually, and literally, the son of God, as in, not "son of God" like we all are, but the actual one, God incarnate, that sort of thing, then I think he would not only believe it, he'd be like, "Duh. How else do you think God would have done it?"
