      Hey habee,
      Immigration, now there is an emotional trigger if there ever was one. Protecting the southern borders of the U.S always seems to get peoples panties in a bunch. It seems to me, if our history books are truthful, we as American citizens all immigrated to this country at one time or another.
      The discussion focusing on the impact Latinos have and will have on politics in the U.S is nothing new. The bigger problem for Republicans and traditional America, times they are a changing. The progressive movement has absolutely no time for traditional thinking. I will go far as to say, many folks believe, out of touch, backwards, in other words, a thing of the past.
      All one need do, look at the outcome of the 2012 election, the democrat machine dealt a crippling blow to traditional America.
      Many folks of the world are accustomed to governments dictating, controlling big government’s social programs. Why should anyone think of supporting anything other than that they understand and accept…?
      In short, I believe there is nothing the Republican party can do that will attract folks with a socialist / progressive leaning ideal.

   Illegal immigration is certainly an emotional trigger for me because it affects those of us in the border states tremendously. I have no problem whatsoever with LEGAL immigration and most certainly would/will welcome those coming here, becoming American citizens and participating in what this country has to offer. I have a huge problem with our government not enforcing the immigration laws we have in place, molly coddling illegal immigrants and furnishing them services paid for by working citizens of the U.S. I do not see this improving under Obama -- in fact, it appears to me he's encouraging those from Mexico to get here any way they can and he'll make it worth their while and approve of anything they do/need. I'm disappointed that our country isn't truly addressing illegal immigration -- particularly from Mexico  -- they're just putting a band aid on it until they can legalize the illegals already here and encourage more to enter the United States illegally.

      Politicians seem to always dance with the one’s that put them into and keep them in power. The Obama machine is a master at that…

   It would be nice if "latinos" were loyal to America.  Why are they so concerned about immigration?  I'm not.  Are they not Americans?  I am an American first, last, and always.  Whatever ties I have to my ethnic culture is subordinated to my love of my country.  If "latinos" will not respect, America then I will not respect them.  My ancestors came from Europe, worked hard, paid taxes, and asked nothing of the government; just the chance to work and feed their families.  They invested hard in the American Dream.   People in my family love America, their cultural roots are a distant memory.  The American culture is what we love and cherish. The "latinos" would do well to follow that example.  I really don't care much for "latinos" or their "vote."  If they continue on as they are doing, they will remain a stigmatized minority; they will continue underachieving and never realizing the beauty of the American Dream.  Wake up and become Americans!

      Latinos are mostly immigrants themselves with close relatives who they want to join them here in the US. US citizens aren't only those who were born here, but they are those who were naturalized after going through "America's broken immigration system "(This according to politicians). It would be very selfish of them not to care. Your ancestors came from Europe, and this is the situation of a large amount of Americans. There roots are no of here. So we don't know whether the came illegal or not. But what I do know is that many of those who are here have contributed significantly to the US economy. And we never know...the next person bustin' their butt to have a better life and stay on the good side of the law here in America might be the one helping you and I to keep our jobs or hiring us.

         I have to respectfully disagree.  Many of them refuse to learn English.  They band together in small esoteric groups, often living a dozen in an apartment.  As a health professional assigned to the inner-city Hispanic area, I experienced their culture first hand.  It can in no way be compared to the European-American experience.  No one in my family speaks the native tongue, most everyone married other nationalities, and they couldn't care less about the "old country."

   In response to Angela Blair's comment.  Perhaps you are unaware that President Obama has sent more undocumented workers back to their country than President Bush...W, ever did.  He also has added more protection to the borders than what was there when he first took office.  All of this, and we still have a problem with illegal immagration.  In my opinion it will take millions of dollars and man power (we are already doing that but obviously more is needed) along with the will of the people to spend the maga bucks to get the situation in control.

   It appears carol3san and I are in agreement. I'm aware of what each and every president has done toward illegal immigration  -- and certainly Obama has contributed -- BUT, as carol3san said, we still have a problem so apparently the problem isn't being addressed properly, our borders are not secured as they should be and the beat goes on with the illegal population in this country having more of a say in what will happen with our borders and what their rights are while they are in this country illegally than bonafide U.S. citizens. I believe most Americans are concerned with this problem as it's costing them personally -- and dearly -- but obviously we haven't been able to make our concern apparent to the last several administrations as nothing much has changed. I'm simply saying I believe this to be a serious problem to the whole country and if we don't speak up -- and loudly --  the problem will only get worse.
