Shocked to see my highest scoring hub is now idle

   I was just shocked to see that my current highest scoring hub with a hubscore of 91 is no longer featured!
   
   PD Sorry about the typo in the title which I just noticed! That is what happens when you have a keyboard with all the letters missing and worn away!

         Thanks, Patty! I suppose it will if I tweak it but it is sad to see my top hub get this treatment. Even sadder to think it was about a topic that has to do with the whole world and its future seeing as the Kogi made a film  - From The Heart of the World - back in 1990 to warn us all what would happen if we didn't change our ways. They say we must stop all the mining, damming, fracking, drilling and deforestation. As a pre-Columbian surviving culture they believe they are the Guardians of the Planet and live in the Heart of the World on the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Columbia.. They refer to us as the "Younger Brother." They have agreed to work with BBC man Alan Ereira because their message has not been heeded and they fear the worst. They also met up with the Dalai Lama and Hopi Elders last year because of the urgency they see for the world to change course. Google the Kogi to find out more.

   Hello Bard. Just a few words of advice on this idle hub. I get that too. But I also find that once I do follow some of the Golden rules of Hubpages the traffic to my hubs starts to rise again. So to repeat old advice to get some traffic to you hubs please do the following.
   1, Take part in the community by reading hubs, posting comments and asking and answering questions daily,
   2, Post the link to your idle hub into your news feeds and use the filters to navigate between topics and spread the word of your hub by posting links in news feeds in several of it's related topic areas.
   3, If you do these daily you will see traffic to your hub or hubs begin to rise again.

      1) this has NOTHING to do with why Hubs go idle and thus will have zero effect on that situation.
      
      2) my own experiments have shown that promotion alone will not remove idle status.  You must edit/refresh the Hub content in some way.

         I totally agree with Relache.
         
         A high scoring hub does not  necessarily make it a successful hub.
         
         Usually my hub only comes out of idle when I edit. There is always something, even minute that you can tweak on the hub.

         And in my own case, I've had to add several sentences to idled Hubs; changing a word or to or some punctuation did nothing to help at all.

            I've found that changing a couple of sentences is enough - BUT the effect lasts for a few weeks at best.
            
            Are you finding that adding more sentences works for the longer term?

               Yes, I am finding exactly that. I need to add at least 10 sentences or two paragraphs at least.

                  I agree. So I have been trying to add at least another hundred words, some times a whole capsule works best. The more content I add the better it works.

   That should be a pretty strong indication that the factors that go into hub score are not identical to the ones that go into deciding whether a hub is idled or not.
   
   We already knew that, though.  Hubscore is an almost meaningless figure and useless as a measure of quality, traffic or anything else.  At least a portion of hubscore is totally random, and I certainly hope the factors for idling a hub are not!

         Me, too.  But it isn't necessarily the lowest scores that are idled, just low.
         
         I've had low traffic hubs score 100, though, and I've had very high traffic hubs (at least very high to me) score in the lower 90's.  I've watched a hub go from 20 views per day to 150 and stay there for months without a corresponding increase in hub score.  I've got one hub that very consistently gets 50+ views, has lots of comments, made HOTD and can't score above 80.
         
         I've got idled hubs that have been idle ever since the program was instituted, show 0 views for 30 days and still score in the 70's.
         
         That hub score number is meaningless until it gets down into the 50's and 40's.

   Revise content, update, try refocusing the words in your hubs to better use keywords as this may help drive traffic upwards in the longer run.

   Yes Wilderness, I agree with you. I have had HOTD on two seperate articles that don't seem to score massively, and my traffic overall is pretty crappy unless my work is on the front page. Yet none of my hubs have gone idled yet, even the low performing ones. What I have found though is that my few recipe hubs, while tiny and processed very quickly, have gained consistent traffic.
   
   What a bizarre world this hubpages is, hopefully my apprenticeship mentor can answer some of my questions about this when my program starts.

      I have loads of idled hubs and it doesn't worry me anymore. I look on them as already written articles to move elsewhere!
