Yep. The lines crossed. I said it would. And it did. I truly am a legend in my own mind. big_smile

Quite bluntly... You don't like HP? Then leave.

Clean, upright and erudite hubbers vs nasty, tentacled, oily, slimy things from the dark depths of the earth?  Was there ever any doubt?

Not that I would ever attempt to sway anyone with mere adjectives...

I think this truly is the crux here....

Para,I find those figures you posted saddening.

Two content farms together. On is doing better than the other, but the same writers post on both.

The giant's share of my work is on HP. I only have one squid, which I didn't even remember about until a few days ago.

Squidoo was doing a lot better than HP for a long while, but HP originally did better (and is the elder site).

But I would have hated if Squidoo writers put a post like yours on their forums when HP fell from grace.

A little respect is required here.

Squidoo is about five months older than HubPages.

My experience is that they switch profitability about every two years.

As long as you are happy, that is the main thing big_smile

My sales and lensranking are up despite a small downturn in traffic on Squidoo -- and that makes me happy too big_smile

HP traffic... not so good for me at the moment but eBay sales are looking promising. Swings and roundabouts, I suppose.

Edit: The graphs won't load for me but I am seeing total monthly global traffic for Squidoo as 25.9m and HP as 23.4m.

Actually, I'm reasonably fond of Squidoo as well.

Those lines will have to stay crossed for awhile before the month-stats catch up.

    A huge difference...WOW..

I'm finding no difference in my average views per item here and on Squidoo. The only difference here is that a number of my hubs are 2-3 years old, and thus supposedly "matured" according to what is said here so much. My lenses, on the other hand, are between 4 months and 1 day old. Secondly, I have also already earned more on Amazon so far with my lenses than I did in my first year here.

Perhaps most importantly, I can see well in advance if my lenses are going to be removed from view, and even if I miss the crucial turning point, I know that a simple tweak will get them back in immediately without this being dependent on waiting to see if some anonymous minion somewhere will score me sufficiently high on numerous scales of unproven relevance.

Hi, I'm still a beginner. Which numbers should I be looking at? They look quite close to me, but like I said I really don't know much.

I was amused to find a couple of messages from Squid HQ about being less spammy.  The first one was just a normal page, about how to write sales pages that actually have content, rather than just a huge list of Amazon links.

The second was an announcement that they are declaring war on spun content, they will stop the ability to transfer lenses between accounts (which has all the people who write and sell lenses up in arms), and they are developing a spun/UnEnglish filter.

It seems quite clear that this is the result of the Squid's traffic drop.  However there is absolutely no mention of the drop, or the fact that Squidoo seems to have lost Google's love.

Busy busy, but I wanted to swing by and say: Yep, you're right. It's a fair cop. wink

I posted this after Squidoo HQ's initial blog post ...

Thin Content is NOT a New Problem; Something Else Is

...and then HQ came out with its second blog post saying, "Yep, you're right, there's something else going on."

I do not like being right.

I also don't think it's time to rejoice in Hubpages land that Squidoo traffic has now fallen down to Hubpages levels. It would be a greater Hubpages victory if Hubpages had climbed up and overtaken Squidoo while it was doing well (and I would rejoice then, too, because I am trying to diversify, and I do like to post informational/educational content that is better suited to HP than Squid).

You are right. My competitive nature got loose there for awhile... big_smile

As previously stated, I am reasonably fond of Squidoo as well. Next informational sales article idea I get, Squidoo will be where it goes.

New theory - Forget all the ranking stuff, Big G has a quota for HP and Squids that it occasionally needs to adjust. Ah! squids have risen - time to screw them down a bit! HP they're about right!

The concept of quotas is an interesting idea indeed. The probability of you being right is definitely not zero. Such quotas could also be being applied to news organizations, sites like eBay vs Amazon, and so on... Very interesting question. Is it a Darwinism free-for-all? Or are things indeed rationed?

I have never understood why HP's traffic stats remains so flat despite all the added pages, changes to layout etc.
'Quota' may explain it. Perhaps QAP is part of a plea for a boost to HP's traffic from G.

            http://www.a1niches.com/quota.png

Squids moved above their quota - so adjustments made via panda

Here's a speculation... If the forums were moved offsite, then that part of the used quota would be applied to the hubs instead. Be a heck of a note if the forums are costing HP a fortune every month...

I personally think hubpages is just a bit easier to navigate and control than squidoo is.
