Well, considering they had 18 months advance notice and did nothing until the last possible moment tells us they were not too concerned about sequestration.  Some pain will be felt because that was the intended result from the very start.  "If you don't give me everything I want I will hurt you bad."  If these cuts hurt anyone, it is because they wanted it to hurt.  With some cooperation and planning, nobody needed to be hurt.

The Dow is not the indicator for the health of the economy.
Neither is the GDP because it includes government spending.

Well, when meat inspections stop the plants will close and that will hit some people.  There will be quite a lot of job losses unless they start digging out now.

I didn't say the sky is falling.  I said there will be job losses, in part because of meat producers having to close. By law meat must be inspected and inspections are being cut, meaning some plants will close. These are just facts. No big deal unless you work in a meat processing plant.  Then a very big deal.

The sequester was designed to be a major ball-buster in order to get both parties to work together to avoid it. They didn't, so the ball-busting is now upon us.

      What's the mystery?

It was designed by both sides to be something they would be forced to avoid.  They then failed to avoid it. A vote for either party is a vote for the people who caused this.

Did the republicans sign it into law too? You see, Obama thought it was such a good idea that he did! Then he thought it wasn't such a great idea but oops too late. So he was for it before he was against it.

US President Barack Obama speaks to the media about sequestration in the Brady Press Briefing Room at the White House in Washington on March 1, 2013 following a meeting with US Speaker of the House John Boehner and Congressional leaders. Obama summoned congressional leaders but the talks were more for the sake of appearances rather than a deadline day bid to avert a damaging $85 billion in arbitrary budget cuts. Obama was bound by law to initiate the automatic, indiscriminate cuts, which could wound the already fragile economy, cost a million jobs and harm military readiness, in the absence of an deficit-cutting agreement.

Try reading what I said earlier.  I also suggest you look at the link I posted which showed support from both sides of the aisle on the initial bill that forced this problem now.  Both sides of the aisle, as well as the President himself, haven't done their jobs on this.

Yes and it shows just exactly what I said. This administration started it. NOT the president but his people.

And it shows it had support from both sides of the aisle yet the blame for it is still at the Presidents feet?  Interesting.

If something has support from multiple parties/people don't they all share in the consequences of their support?

One reason for the inaction in Washington is that both parties still hope the other will either be blamed by voters for the cuts or cave in before the worst effects predicted by Democrats come into effect.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Friday showed 28% of Americans blamed congressional Republicans for the sequestration mess, 18% thought Obama was responsible and 4% blamed congressional Democrats. Thirty-seven percent blamed them all, according the online poll.

The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office predicts 750,000 jobs could be lost in 2013, and federal employees throughout the country are looking to trim their own costs.

But the population grows every year and inflation cuts about 1% every year which means that now there are more people with not enough money to cover the services they require which is why thousands of prisoners have been released early due to sequestration (and that is just for starters).

The law requires federal employees receive a 30 day notice of any change in employment status.  That would seem to constitute an announcement, unless you are in the private sector, where unannounced means unannounced.  Private sector employees are dismissed and walked out of businesses everyday because the burden of a fat government is crushing American business.  The American private sector has contracted by millions of jobs and household incomes are down, unless your household is one propped up by tax dollars.

Why should anyone feel for federal employees whose hardship has been delayed by  taxes, borrowing and inflated currency?  Time for them to get a little skin in the game(to quote the dear leader)

No one is asking you or anyone else to feel for Federal Employees, but you are showing your ignorance and your lack of empathy. The typical right wing anonymous troll, with nothing on their plate except hanging out in forums and repeating the same inane crap all over the internet.

Federal Employees are like everyone else, don't confuse them with elected officials, they pay, taxes, contribute to their health care and pension and are effected by the economy like everyone else.

As you wish.  I still wonder how a 30 day notice constitutes "unannounced" and how a reduction in pay for some federal employees is as devastating as the fate of the millions more Americans currently unemployed thanks to compassionate and enlightened liberal policies?

Why do people have to swing between wild extremes?  It's all one person's fault, or another's.  Its not happening at all or it's the end of the world.

The sequester is not vague, it is not a mystery, its words on paper.  We know everyone who had a hand in it, and we know what it does.

It is a moderately stupid thing being done by a very stupid gridlocked political system with the complicity of many of those politicians, from both sides.

If you want to know exactly what the sequester does, here's a wild idea: read it.

I meant that it does not go through the usual process for a pay cut.  But if you prefer, strike that word and replace it with "sudden". But keep in mind that the person you are replying aboveto never used the word at all.
