I just noticed that there are advertisements underneath the threads in the forums. Is that normal?
Okay, it is beginning to smell a little bit like desperation.
But in this case it is at the bottom and not in the way or on our hubs, so whatever.
I just noticed this. And was just about to post a thread. I don't really see the point - hubbers are much more likely to click them than random Google visitors. Or is that the idea?
I was thinking the same thing... but ads on HP pages do not have the rotating script so there is no jeopardy of hubbers losing their account for false clicks.
I am 99% sure that around a year ago I suggested HP put ads in the forums. I am glad to see they finally got around to reading my post.
It seems like there are a lot of members here at HP who join just to mix it up in the topics forums. These people have no adsense accounts, no desire to write anything and no vested interest in HP succeeding or failing, except that they'd have to find somewhere else to argue about religion. Who knows how many there are, and it's hard to tell those folks from people who just have secondary accounts for arguing. But if HP has determined there are a large number of people who come here simply to use the forums why not stick ads in front of them? That's not desperate; that's smart. Especially now that the forums are separated.
But why the ads would be on the HP section too makes no sense, really, unless they're thinking people might trickle over here. Or maybe it makes sense from a programming perspective, somehow.
All I know for sure is I aint clickin on no ads.
Hi Brenda,
I haven't noticed the adds before either? I wonder who's getting paid for their display?
Chuck
I don't see any mystery. This is hubpages, hubpages is getting paid.
I think there is little doubt (actually none) that HP are the ones earning from these new forum adverts. To be honest I am not overly worried if they want to put adverts on the forums, but what I still loathe are the horrible 'Related Search' Ads (the income from which also goes straight to HP) in the floating box on hubs that distracts from the adverts the hubbers actually make money from. Really amazed this has not been dropped based on the strong negative reaction from Hubbers when it was first commented on in the forums.

Thanks for the link John, have read and voted
If you think about it, payment for the MTurks has to come from somewhere.
I don't mind ads in the forums.
The Related Searches failing to share revenue with my hubs that have drawn the traffic to HP is a separate issue.
Why not remove the deceptive Related Search ads from our domains now that HP is "by design" generating more non-shared income through the forums?

I saw an ad for $3 worth of coupons earlier. I wanted to go for it, but wasn't sure. And it was for food, not for a "date".
You probably would want to avoid those $3 dates.
Pretty soon they'll be adding skimlinks or viglinks to monetize our thoughts.
Squidoo was doing inline text ads when they got Google stomped. And they still are. And they're now doing pop-ups, but for other lenses instead of outright ads; don't know how long they've been doing that.

There are a lot of us who haven't been feeling safe on the forums. They've felt stalked, harassed and browbeaten.Sadly, some folks go with the letter of the law, but not the spirit of it in their posts. For an excellent post on why we need Forum Moderators, check out what Makingamark says here...

I was just curious. I have not seen a lot of hubbers that have been here at Hubpages for over two years..perhaps they are too busy hubbing away!

If I may be so bold as to make a request of HubPages, I would like you to please re-examine at this time your decision to ban Jerrico Usher from the Hub Forums. He has proven himself to be quite mindful of the mistake he made before and seems to me to be waaay to smart to make the same mistake...

Has anyone else noticed a serious drop in quality among the Question portion of HubPages? For the past several weeks, nearly every question that is featured in the "my account" section has been ripe with misspellings and just contain a general lack of worth in my opinion. I feel the...

Okay this is great! I downloaded it this morning, and it's really working wonderfully. We all know Edweirdo, a very clever and useful hubber who created the HubDefender tool for us all which detects hub-theft and assists in dealing with it. Edweirdo has also written many helpful tutorial hubs on...
