It would be useful to be able to sort our hubs into categories on the profile page. This would make it easier for readers to see what else is available in subjects that interest them, and also remind writers to work on a niche. I think the option was available on the old profile page - was it phased out for a particular reason?
I agree! As it is, it's a bit of a hodgepodge of randomness when you look at a profile page, with the exception of the Spotlight hubs.
Looks like we have 3 similar requests.
I can will bring this up in our next community meeting.
This has been brought up before, Matt. In particular, there was a thread where many Hubbers agreed the "Show" button is practically invisible - in fact, this thread started because the OP didn't see it.
so there are far more than three supporters of the need to make it more visible.
We discussed this feature suggestion today.
We currently have no plans to develop this feature, but will keep it in mind as for future development.
Agree as well, not only will it give our profiles a more attractive, less cluttered look, but it will help our readers find the genres they are interested in easier. After all utilizing organic SEO where we writers cannot should be HubPages job and I'm surprised that they removed the feature from the new profiles.
Hubs are still shown in their topical categories on your profile page. The "show all" link opens a drop-down menu which shows your categories and how many Hubs you have there.
relache, I must be missing something, I'm not aware of a drop-down menu. Will have to look into that, thanks.
On the top right of the content container you'll see the link, and yes the link is a nice feature, however as a person who has studied interactive media and web usability, having a clean layout improves readability, which is vital on a site where the visitors tend to read a lot.
Well, well, I never realized that was there! If I didn't know about it, I'm not sure how readers would know. It will come in handy when viewing other hubber's work now I'm aware of the feature.
janshares, yes, I mean being able to group categories together on your profile. I think you could do that previously, possibly with a miscellaneous section to group random topics. The profiles changed not long after I joined. Now, it goes in date order when you write a hub.
Yes the show all link is nice and all but the main profile page looks a mess, and you have to wait for the category to load once you click on the link, making it not very user friendly.
I think this is a good idea as well, innerspin. I tried the feature pointed out by relache and it is pretty cool. The only problem is that a visitor to your subdomain would need to know the feature is there. It also shows only one category at a time. I think you're suggesting all categories grouped and all showing at the same time.
Innerspin, you're far from the only person who's failed to notice that tiny link. I'm sure the average reader wouldn't see it either.
This has been brought up before and HubPages didn't respond then either.
I'm beginning to think HubPages simply doesn't want to make it easy for readers to find Hubs in our profile.
When I read this first I thought, absolutely great idea... actually being able to 'Fix' the category on ones page.. so for example if an author was writing / focusing on Beauty then that would always be the primary category displayed. The reader could then select other categories from the drop-down. I think I will actually make a formal suggestion regarding that sub-menu so thanks very much for the nudge Kim..
I agree that being able to 'Fix' the category on ones page would also be a good idea, however I also think that the show all page should be more organized with a bit more white space which can be done by adding the categories headings and the respective hubs displayed under the headings.
Exactly!
That was the first thing I was looking for to do, but I couldn't find any option for it.
Some categories are also missing from the list.
Perhaps making the drop down menu more user friendly would take care of this problem. It IS small, and is not explanatory.
I really like this idea, and it doesn't seem difficult at all to implement, considering that it had already been present in our profile pages before the change. It would certainly help readers find additional hubs on the same topic.
I am disappointed that you don't plan to develop this.
I really like this idea as well. It would definitely make it easier for readers to find hubs per topic. Currently, the latest hubs are at the top (after the Spotlight) which is great for getting new hubs viewed more. But, for those who follow certain writers, the categories would be quite helpful.

I just updated my HubPages profile a couple days ago and in my profile linked to some of my favorite hub topics that I wrote about. Is this bad to do this since on the profile page we have those same hubs randomly come up below? I just don't want overkill but like the thought that I've got my...

Hi,Hi,I keep getting the message that my hubs could be featured, but no matter how often I change them, they never are. I keep getting told that they may contain "spammy elements" but I'm not sure what these might be. Many of my hubs were previously published in my local newspaper, the...
