As decently as my hubs have been doing in terms of hub scores, I've yet to get any comments in them.  I'd very much like some criticism or discussion in my hubs, but so far the only comment I got is one that can apply to any hub.  Is there any kind of trick to getting more comments from HubPages' community?

Hi Bryan, please bear in mind this is late night for me. Had a quick look at your hubs. They seem pretty niche, which is by no means a bad thing. You may well get search engine views any time soon, which is the long term objective. Hubbers statistically will comment more, but do not add much to your income. I'd say think long term, you've not been here long. Best of luck.

Bryan, as other hubbers have rightly pointed out, comments do not add up much to the weightage. The most important thing is having high-quality content that is driving traffic to your hubs and in result, helping you in earning loads of money. So, do not bother about this aspect. You will get them sooner or later and if you do not get them do not get disappointed.

Controversial topics seem to draw in a lot of comments.  Casual readers and general information seekers seem to be less inclined to comment.

Engaging the reader in some way or asking at question seems to generate some responses.

      HI Bryan,
I never got too many comments on my hubs either. When I began writing, I was teaching people about metaphysical topics, so maybe that made them less likely to comment. Honestly, the hubs I see with the most comments are the ones that are about religion or politics, and they get nasty. Or else they have cutesy pictures of dogs and cats, which I wouldn't lower myself to do. That's not writing. The amount of comments doesn't really affect your money. My most popular hubs that have over 25,000 views often only have a few comments or questions. It seems people only comment on their friend's hubs, or about trivial stuff I wouldn't even bother to write about. Don't sweat it.

I write about things that interest me like my dogs, the places I visited, restaurants, and my favorite korean actresses.  I have one hub about animals and that received lots of comment, well mostly inquiries because I wrote about my pet's illness, and I really made that hub for the purpose of propagating information about the ailment. well my dog was cute even wearing the elizabethan collar,,my next hub with the most comment is about a korean drama. Looks like people with the same interest found my hub through google.

The hub has to be worth commenting on, not every subject is going to generate comments.

If they read your information, learn what they wanted to learn, that will often be it!

I have some hubs with hundreds of comments but they are well trafficked hubs through the search engines and are in some ways controversial (such as dating in Saudi Arabia) so there are many people that either want to argue with me, agree with me and argue with the people that are arguing with me, etc. I also have hubs that are meant to provide help with issues and I get many people asking questions (often even if they have already been asked and answered within the hub and the other comments!)

I have other hubs that are equally well trafficked where people read the information and then leave, there is nothing to comment about!

Bryan, for hubbers to comment on your hubs, the hubs you write have to be something they've experience with, as much detailed experience as possible.  While, I am a gamer & a huge Marvel X-Men fan, I can't venture to comment of your Wolverine review, (or honestly even read it, yet!,) since I've not seen the movie yet.  Another one is a game you mention... It looks *really* intriguing, but since again, I haven't personally played it, I'm not going to comment on it...

Like someone else mentioned, your topics are extremely narrow.  That is almost always, a totally awesome thing.  Too broad a topic and you'll end up buried in Google Search.

As you continue to write more hubs I'm sure that comments will begin to trickle in, I don't want to sound bossy, but please, don't change what you write about or how you write it to garner comments wink  In the big scheme, it's not that big of a deal.

How well / extensively do your market your hubs via social media, such as Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest and other sites?  People who are interested in friending or following you will most likely, (or at least more likely,) have similar tastes as you and have the kind of interest to leave an insightful comment.  And really, that's what you want, right?  Inane... "Nice hub, very informative!," comments may be OK some of the time, but what you really want are people to engage in a dialogue with you, or each other supported by your hub.

I often feel like, (and I mean no offense to any of the writers here,) that hubs written with an almost exclusive / blatant controversy-grab are kind of cheap.  Yay... you get tons of internet-troll-traffic by people coming back to argue with you / each other / the world at large.  You don't need to do something like that to get comments / traffic, it might work for some people, but it's nice to rise above that sort of thing.

But if you haven't played it or seen it then you can comment with questions.  The point of some of these hubs is to be for those people specifically.

The best way for you to get comments, visit hubs and comment on those hubs. Visit as many as you can. Visit hubs your interested in soon hubbers will start to comment on your hubs. Outside comments are harder to come by.
