Atheist saying, "Oh, my God!"

   Do they believe in God by using this expression? I am sure it is insulting to use expressions which one doesn't believe.

      Basically, it's proof that, at heart, everybody believes God is real.
      It's just become so popular during the last couple of years to say ya don't believe,  and to use those terms as a negative thing.

         You don't use figures of speech to state a literal meaning; a figure of speech is a reflexive, nonsensical exclamation. Like "wow." Or "oh crap." Or "for crying out loud." Or "oh my god."

      I think that for some, it is a figure of speech and not meant literally. It's similar to getting angry with someone and telling them to kiss your butt. You are not literally inviting a person to apply their lips to your derriere. It's just a statement of expression to display a specific emotion. Sure there are other phrases that can be used, but some habits are hard to break when expressions are used often

            Yes, JM, I know you are a pastafarian that seeks the embrace of the noodley appendages of the fsm and revel in the ecstasy that comes with grabbing a hold of, fondling, and accepting the holy teabagging of hie meaty balls (Ramen)
            
            
            However, this does bring up another point. Even pastafarians can say "OMG' when referring to the FSM.
            The term in itself does not specifically have to refer to the Christian God. It is a possessive statement that can be referenced to any deity

   'Oh my I don't believe in God' wouldn't have the same effect. It's too long anyway. Maybe they should just say 'oh shit' because something like 'fiddlesticks' doesn't seem to fit the standard atheist profile. It's easier to imagine them saying 'oh shit'.
