I published my first poem on this site. I scored low on it and was hoping somebody skilled in poetry could take a look at it and tell me how I could improve it and others I write in the future.

That's the link I forgot to post!
You did a good job. Im wondering why you felt the need to put the count by each line?
I liked the pic a lot.
Enjoyed reading your poem. However, the dark side does not appear to be very popular with HP...others have tried it only to crash and burn.
I wrote a series of dark poems and stories; My author score at the time was mid to high 90's.As you can see,it is now at 60,though my traffic has remained the same. All of my dark stuff was given very low scores.
You have a choice before you;Toe the line and flourish or write what you like and suffer the consequences....or write pablum and promote like crazy...which is the equivalent to selling out...
Thank you for your comment! This is more of a hobby for me and something I really love doing. I am just going to continue to publish what I like and if people end up hating it, oh well!
Hello there, Travis. Just read your poem. I like it. (See my comments) How did you categorize it under poetry? Elegy or Narrative? Sometimes that makes a difference. I like poetry that speaks to another time period. You did this quite well. Welcome to HubPages.
Thank you for your comment, Janshares! I categorized it like this: Books, Literature, and Writing → Poems and Poetry. I stopped after that. I am not sure how else I would categorize my poem. How would you have categorized it?
You're welcome, Travis. Since you weren't going for any particular style, I would categorize it as either a Narrative because it tells a story, however it ends with a lesson, which speaks to Inspirational poetry. Or, I'd be more inclined to put it under Elegy since it's about death. Read the definitions of the poetry categories in the Topics section and see what you think. Also note that categorizing them and grouping them are two different things with different functions. You will see how to group each hub to the right of the hub tool while in edit mode.
I have a 'dark side' poetry Hub that's received more than 7,000 views in the past 30 days sent from Google. That Hub has the lowest score of all my Hubs, but it just doesn't matter because it's bringing in the $s.
Just use good SEO and bring in the visitors. The Hub Score has nothing to do with success on Google or making money on HP. Someday maybe HP will realize that and change the whole scoring system. (But don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen!)
Thank you for your comment! I am starting to realize that Hub scores are irrelevant and bear little direction to how good a piece is or not.
I totally agree with you.My traffic has been consistent(though not as high as yours)and virtually all from Google through all of the score changing here.

Just few hours back when I Logged In I got the message that my Hubs have not been categorized..Have you did that and what are all the benefits by doing so? Will it increase the traffic?

When you receive a comment on one of your hubs, do you always post back with a comment? Or, just when there is something to post back about. For example if someone just comments that it is a nice hub, do I need to comment back to them? Thanks!
