Is it okay to use CoudFare to file a DMCA? My hub content has been stolen.
I do not have much idea on DMCA and cloudfare, maybe someone will put me through. Beside how can one report a site that copied his content.
Not sure just what CloudFare is, but I presume a host of a website. It is quite alright to file against a host, or server of a site. I try to contact them with the letter first that HP provides us when we click the warning of copied content. A few times that has gone straight to Google for Blogger blogs and such, and I have filed with Google. Most times I have to sent a copy of the infringement letter to the site owners itself. I do meet with pretty good success doing that.
Thanks for your reply, Dale. I've done one before but not via the HP warning. I went to the offending site but I didn't see an email address or how to contact the owner so I can send the HP letter which is really convenient. So I found CloudFare which provides a form and submit button.
Jan, have you tried looking up the offending site in WhoIs? Usually you can get emails not only for the site owner, but also for the hosting service. I usually send an email to the site owner and copy the hosting service.
I clicked on WhoIs but I guess I didn't go in deep enough to follow through. I will try that again. Thanks, Ron. I can become really tech-challenged when I stressed out and multitasking. I'll figure out.
Ron, I found 3 email addresses, not sure which I should use. One is for Godaddy which I guess if the owner and the other 2 are wix.com which is the server(?). I don't know, I 'll send to all three. I just don't want to be accused of spamming or harrassing anybody. Guidance please? Will follow through later this evening. Clients now, later gator. Thanks.
Jan, I would expect that GoDaddy.com is actually the hosting service and perhaps the other one is the owner. In any case, I wouldn't worry at all about somebody thinking you're harassing them. You're filing a valid complaint, and whatever place they hold in the chain of responsibility, they should respond. Go for it!
That is useful to know, thanks Jan. I have three offenders who I don't know how to contact. I have failed dismally in managing to file a DMCA with them. I really hate seeing those horrible little red (c) on my accounts page.
Ron and Dale, I sent the HP letter using the 3 emails which covered the host and owner, as well as cc to Team HP. Thank you very much for your help.
I have tried unsuccessfully to notify - it is horrible - it is as if the world wide web has no police to take care of these items. I thought ICANN was going to streamline this process but alas I have not seen any tangible improvement.
If content continues to be stolen, I fear we will loose great writers. It pushes the content writers to the published sites. I used to write for a newspaper with my blogs but much prefer HubPages and the true sense of ownership but this continued problem forces me to reconsider where I put my effort.
Update:
After finding I still didn't have the right email, I was sent the correct one that deals specifically with copyright infringement. I sent the complaint yesterday evening and this morning I received a response saying that the site owner was notified of the infringement and has removed the content.
I just checked and it is indeed gone.
I am happy that the issue got resolved at the end. But Janshare, give me a little tip on how you went about this because mine maybe copied one day, though I do not pray for such to happen.
Mike, I'm happy it went well, too. I followed the directions on the warning that HP puts on the hub. They actually do the preliminary work for you. I clicked on the links supplied by HP and found the emails. The host site actually emailed me back with another email to their copyright infringement department. This was my first time doing one via the HP warning. It made it quite simple, with assistance of my helpful hubbers above.
janshares,
I've had trouble with GoDaddy as well. It always leads me to the wrong place, or by the time I get there, there is no record of the site that stole my work.
Sometimes, if I get lucky, I can just write to the site owner and they will take the piece down, when I tell them the original date I wrote and published it. Last week somebody took one of my hubs, chopped it into 12 individual pieces, and posted them all on Google +. I can't figure out why, since he wouldn't make any money from it, would he? Plus it's written in my niche, and not part of any of his. He did take it down, but banned me from his Google + page, since that was the only place I could track him to.
It would be nice if all DMCAs went as smoothly this one did. I do feel I know what to do now.
Janshares, thanks for the explanation, I appreciate your good heart.

I noticed today that one of my best articles (that really needs a rewrite) has been duplicated on a website called PetRadars.com. They copied everything from the title to the comments, though they left out the poll and all but one photo. They list on the bottom that they duplicated the article...

A few of my hubs have been copied by a site hosted by GoDaddy. I looked up their page about copyright infringement and something about the DMCA wording and the way that the counter notice was worded made me a little nervous. The GoDaddy reaction to copyright infringements seemed too extreme to me....

If any content of the hub is being copied by someone and used elsewhere, its not the fault of hubber. This is nice that HP is motivating hubbers to file DMCA to the concerned site and take appropriate action, who is going to waste time to fight with the copyright violators. HP has witnessed...

I find this all so depressing. Can anyone tell me how long after filing a DMCA complaint does it take to resolve these issues - or is it as long as a piece of string? How does earth does one motivate oneself to write more hubs when this continues to happen.

To whom it may concern,This cease and desist notice is a preliminary to a DMCA notice which will be filed if the copyright infringement is not removed within the next two weeks. Please note that this is not a DMCA as of yet, however if a DMCA does need to be filed I will not be held liable for the...

I wanted to share an email that I received four days after filing a DMCA complaint against copied material I found upon searching. This is not the first positive result I have had from various DMCA complaints filed with Google. It is not hard, does not take a lot of time and you get...
