Why do dogs wag their tails?

   According to my recent poll in one of my hubs there are people, who are not so sure why dogs wag their tails.
   
   I am really curious to find out what people think could make the dogs wag their tails.
   
   Fleas? Appendicitis? Nervous tick?

   Dogs rarely can type with their tails, so they use them to ward off evil invisible aliens that can only be seen my them.... a dog alien swatter!

   Wagging tails is their body language.  A wagging tail does not mean the dog is in a good mood or likes you.

      A tucked tail is a sign of being afraid, so perhaps that the dog isn't afraid?

   For my dog, it usually seems to be a sign of being happy. She wags her tail if someone says her name, or if someone asks ,"Do you want to go for a walk?" or "Do you want a cookie?" .... but it may also be to ward off alien spirits.

   My Sweetie Angel wags his tail to communicate---happiness, he hears my voice, sees something he likes, telling me he loves me, and to say good night, I want a treat and I am hungry.

   I always assumed Dogs wag their tail to smile. The harder they wag, the bigger they smile. Sometimes they even laugh.

    a wagging tail (I believe) is excitement....on that same note...it doesn't mean the pooch is friendly...observe the entire body language to get a better understanding.  Oh and the tail is also an alien swatter (duh!)
