Is HP turning into spam or what?

I've been disenchanted with some things here lately, particularly since my traffic went from over a thousand hits a day to about 1/3 of that. Today, I did more than just check in on my stats and actually checked out a hub and noticed how spammy the page looked. Worse, I wanted to share the hub I read and could not find the share buttons for social networking.

Oh, wait, I FINALLY found it after scrolling all the way to the bottom.... but unless I went through ALL the comments, I could not see it.

Can this PLEASE be fixed so they appear above comments or are always visible?

The social sharing buttons currently do show up below the last ad slot on the right column. If you would like to suggest a feature for the site you can do so here.

I already suggested moving the sharing buttons higher in this category, but there has been no response from HP staff.

If you already suggested a feature change, then you do not need to do so again.
All feature suggestions are reviewed, but we do not reply to each one.

I guess that means the buttons will remain buried 6 feet under. Very disappointing.

+1 on the suggestion to move the 'share' buttons to a better spot.  Some hubs that have been around for a long while (and therefore might have built up good traffic) have hugely long lists of comments. This is great, but not conducive to encouraging more shares.  Some people may not even want to leave a comment, but might want to share the hub - and won't even know there's a way to do that.

This has already been posted here (on this thread) and read by a staff member - should not need to be submitted through a 'suggest a feature' form.

I agree with this. Besides, it's not really suggesting a new feature, is it? Since the implementation of the new layout, I certainly recall the share buttons being constantly in view in the right sidebar as I scrolled up and down hubs.

I ought  to be sharing my hubs more often, other than tweeting them on Twitter, and posting them on Google + and Facebook. I think moving the share button up to the top is the quickest way to share our hubs to generate more traffic.

Kristan - I am not sure I'd move the share button all the way to the top - we need for people to read the hubs and have more engagement (the staff knows more about this than I know, of course!).  But having the buttons WAAAAY down at the bottom is annoying and causes people to overlook them.

Speaking of the Share buttons - the one for sharing internally on HP still loads terribly slow - it takes forever for it to indicate that it's shared.

Okay maybe not to the top, Marcy. Maybe to the right side right near the name of the hub author.

It is annoying when share buttons aren't obvious.  They're obvious on other sites.  On the other hand, how often do other people share our writing.  A lot of people's writing is unshareable and all they can hope for is that somebody links to them from a forum/similar.

Most of the sharing done on here is spam anyway.

    Write hub.
Share, tweet, google+ and pinterest it.
    Repeat endlessly.
Wonder why the internet is full of crap.

    Arguably.

Yup - I agree, Mark. I have unfollowed people due to endless sharing.  It's overkill to share every day, and if someone is sharing more than one hub a day, it's abusive to their followers.  Simple solution - just unfollow them.  I prefer my feed to have new hubs and other things haven't yet seen.

A share once in a while is a 'good deed,' but repeatedly spamming your followers is possibly signaling Google that we have incestuous clicking going on here. Many of the views people get are from site members. There's a good chance that Google sees that sort of pattern and downgrades the entire site accordingly. It's as bad as 'paid clicks,' in its own way.

Sharing on Facebook & Pinterest, while still a deliberate action to get views, at least takes the audience outside of this site.

Hmm, I had not thought of it in that light.
Google does seem to be all knowing, eventually.

I believe it is better for it to come up.
