   Saudi Historian: U.S. Women Drive Because They Don't Care If They're Raped
   Saleh Al-Saadoon claimed in a recent TV interview that women can be raped when a car breaks down, but unlike other countries, Saudi Arabia protects its women from that risk by not allowing them to drive in the first place, according to a translation posted online by the Middle East Media Research Institute.

   Is this a good argument for women's repression?  Are they saying the men are so out of control that no women is safe on her own?

      I have not lived there but my parents and sister have and the stories about unaccompanied women they brought back from the region are very serious and dangerous. The police are even to be wary of when a woman breaks the rules. There have been many stories of women disappearing in the desert in the night.

      Would not want to be a women over there nor for freedom sake. U.S. won,t fight for their women rights, as long as there is cheap oil coming in.

         What has been your personal experience traveling lslamic countries, I've traveled most of them.
         
         Women rights have
         always been a heat
         added excuse for the
         flames of war. U.S. deal
         trillions of dollars in oil
         with the Saudi's. Saudi have one the most
         striction on enforcement
         of dress codes,
         separating men from women. beheading, flogging, alcohol and so on.
         
         Back up your claim this is BS that takes the cake.

            Some of the men who do the raping blame it on the women even if it was not the woman's fault. A convenient way to get out of trouble for doing the crime.They even go so far as to kill the woman in order to frighten all woman into submission.

      Well, that might be a good reason why Saudi Arabia is the only country where women are not allowed to drive.  Personally, I like the other reasons:
      
      "Allowing women to drive would 'provoke a surge in prostitution, pornography, homosexuality and divorce.'
      
      "Relaxation of the rules would inevitably lead to 'no more virgins.'”

         I forgot the most important reason women can't drive in Saudi Arabia: Sheikh Saleh Al-Loheidan told Saudi news that "If a woman drives a car, it could have a negative physiological impact.  Medical studies show that it would automatically affect a woman's ovaries and that it pushes the pelvis upward.  We find that for women who continuously drive cars, their children are born with varying degrees of clinical problems."

            Gee, I'd think the alarmingly high rate of consanguineous marriages would be to blame for health problems in babies ( http://www.nytimes.com/2003/05/01/world … eding.html ) but I will defer to the infinite wisdom of the sheik.

               I love where they need lots of genetic research to document the connection between inbreeding and the genetic disorders they are seeing.  Guess it's like the flat earth centuries ago: the church says differently so reality is ignored as long as possible.

            Interesting....have they studied what positions are less detrimental as a passenger?

               Do infants of women not wearing seat belts have more "clinical problems"?  They might, statistically, as in "death" or "premature birth"...

      In Iran I was checking out the cloth and fabics along a rack.
      As I was touching the cloth along the way and handling clothes a woman was
      wearing. She freaked out and
      two men jumped over to beat
      me up. I screamed sorry
      sorry!!! did'nt notice she was
      not part of the cloth and
      clothes rack.!!!
