Anyone noticing a significant CPM drop lately?

I need to know if it is wide-spread or just me. Thinking of hightailing it to AdSense.

edit: A reminder to not mention specific numbers.

My CPM dropped a little this past week, but AdSense increased.

Thank you very much. My intuition says I should go ahead and switch, but I'll give the HP program one more day.

My cpm rate is roughly 1/3 of what it was in the festive reason.
I don't care about adsense because what I earn there amounts to nothing.

Since January of this year, my CPM has seriously droped.

Yes, I have noticed recently that my CPMs have dropped by almost 50%...but I will add that I was getting extremely high CPMs awhile back, so  I'm still doing better than the average hubber.

Mine has drifted gently down over about two years to half of what it once was. But no big recent changes

Interesting. With both AdSense and the HP program, mine has gone up over the years as my traffic has been going down; leastwise until now.

Yes, I've also noticed this over the past week.

I stopped checking my AdSense numbers with any regularity a long time ago, because glaciers move faster than they do.

Since I can't give numbers, here's what I have to say.

Until December of 2014 my CPM was one of the highest scale here on HP from the hundreds of Forum posts that I read. And now it's dropped by over 50% and has reached the mid tier of what most hubbers used to receive.

Good point about shifting. I'll go ahead and do it now for this month and see what happens. Do you have the new location of our own Adsense ads? After the new ad positions I mean. That would be helpful.

Ya know... I haven't a clue on that. I hope HP still isn't being discriminatory with those.

I'll get back to you after a week. I switched over to adsense a few moments ago. This is the third time I'm doing it in the 3 years I'm here. Both the previous times the HP program was better. Let's see how it goes this time around.

How do you switch to Adsense?

          1. lobobrandon profile image88

Turn of the HP ad program and it automatically goes to adsense.

If we want to switch back to the ad program, can we activate it again?

Yes but as far as I know only after a month. However, I remember switching back much sooner. Need to check up the rules on that.

As long as one doesn't go switching back and forth all the time, I believe HP won't become perturbed. I think my last time was August.

Speaking of which, yesterday was my lowest CPM of the year. I have joined the party and switched to AdSense with sadness.

Almost 24 hours since I switched over. Adsense performing worse atm. 75% of what I would have got on the HP Ad Program.

Affiliate marketing is still doing good on self hosted websites when you offer good content, help, features and focus on a niche.

My observation is that daily cpm seems to be directly influenced by which hubs (ie topics) receive traffic on that particular day. Perhaps you've changed your topic focus lately?

Mine has been low the last week, but I have seen it this low several times over the past few years that I have been here on HP. Why switch to Adsense? Historically, the CPM has always gone back up in a reasonable period of time.

It never fails, my traffic increases, and CMP decreases.

Yes, this always seems to happen, and it makes you wonder.  We are told HP has no control over what advertisers pay, but if this is so, why is it so consistent that when views go up, CPMs  go down.  You would think it would be the opposite.  My views have been going up recently, but my CPMs have dropped by about 30%.  I see this pattern all the time, with a few very rare exceptions.

I vacillate between the two (HP ads program and pure AdSense); generally speaking (based on data over the last couple of years), pure AdSense marginally outperforms the HP ads program by about 8%.

The main reason that I like the pure AdSense option is that AdSense itself gives much greater insights into its reports if you set them up right, in terms of what people are clicking on, what they are paying etc.

I've been here for 3 years and still have not reached the basic Adsense payout.  I use it with the HP program, and frankly am not comfortable with using it completely.  The payout sucks as far as I'm concerned.

Paul Maplesdenposted 9 years agoin reply to this

I guess it varies depending on your CPC, CTR and such. I've made payout three or four times on Google AdSense (although I do use it on other sites as well).

  13. paradigm search profile image54
    paradigm searchposted 9 years ago

I'll say what we all know. HP gives highest paying ads to lowest traffic accounts. I agree with that. It helps them. As your traffic increases, cpm declines. Simple as that.
