The traffic to my hubs has been steadily decreasing...

    Hi guys,

I've been posting hubs a few times a week since I joined a bit over a month ago. At first I had fifty or more impressions a day, which I thought was good for a start. Now it seems the more hubs I post the less impressions I get!

Should I stop posting hubs? I've read advice on here about updating, but since I'm only one month in it seems too soon. Any other advice?

Also, I've read about keywords... but there isn't anywhere to put keywords in hubs anymore, is there?

    Thanks for your help!

Hi, BessieBooks. The way things normally work is that when you first post a hub, you get a surge of internal traffic from other hubbers. That soon goes away, and your hub must begin the long process of building search engine ranking. That process may take up to a year before the hub is getting substantial traffic from Google, etc. Meantime, you can be promoting your hubs on social media. All this takes time. Regarding keywords, they should be embodied in your title, summary, and in the body of your hub, without being inartfully forced in (keyword stuffing). As relache indicates, there are some good articles on all this in the Learning Center. Patience! Looks like you're doing fine, so far.

If you haven't done so yet, I would strongly suggest setting up Google Analytics on HubPages (it's free). Analytics will give you lots of insight into where your visitors are coming from (referrals, search etc.), what pages they are reading, how long they are spending on your hubs etc.

There's a full guide to setting up analytics in the learning center, here: http://hubpages.com/learningcenter/sett … -analytics

Something to bear in mind is that it can take quite a while to start ranking in organic search for your hubs (so that Google starts sending you visitors). I've noticed that it typically takes my hubs two or three months before Google starts feeling much love for them, although that can vary.

No don't stop producing Hubs, don't get discouraged by a lack of views.  It takes time for your Hubs to start receiving steady traffic, sometimes months or even years.  You're doing really well, keep churning out those Hubs, the views will come.

I would take "decreasing" at this point. We're half way thru the month and I've amassed 4 cents so far. lol. Decreasing sounds exciting... like something is happening.

Many people here think posting lots of hubs is the way to succeed, but the truth is that it is quality and not quantity that matter.  Take some time and read hubs from successful authors here such as Relache, Writer Fox, Marisa Wright and others to help yourself get an idea as to what makes good content.  You are very new, and all of this takes time.  Be patient and keep upgrading and writing.

Like Ron said, "patience". It takes time and there aren't any guarantees online. Read and learn as much as you can on how to be successful on HubPages, and put it into practice. Hey, I'm talking to myself here too, Bessie. 'Cause I ain't a HubPages Rock Star, but you can be.

Perseverance is most important if you want to make money online. Just remain focus and keep writing quality content. Very soon you'll be seeing good results. I wish you best of luck.

    Thanks for your suggestions everyone!

I've read and believe I've implemented much of the tips from the Learning Center. I guess I was feeling frustrated because I felt like I was doing what I was supposed to and wasn't seeing results.

But I didn't think about the internal traffic versus SEO results--thanks RonELfran.

So now I'm wondering, what are your suggestions/ what did you do when you were just starting? Should I be focused more on posting new quality hubs or upgrading (relative) old ones? What will bring me more results in the long run?

You need to think about writing evergreen hubs - longer more sustainable hubs - on subjects you're passionate about and have knowledge of. Learn all you can about SEO, keywords, titles and other essentials.
When I first started I wrote some sports hubs aimed at a particular international sporting event. They made some quick money for me but they were shooting stars - they burnt out within a month - not evergreen. But writing them gave me valueable practice. In time I stopped writing short sharp hubs and concentrated on much longer ones, with plenty of good images. It's important to learn as much as you can from the forums and learning center and the experience of others. There's a wealth of know-how on HP. Above all, don't lose hope. Persevere.

It can take a couple (or more) months to see regular traffic. A little bit of traffic in the beginning normally dies out and then later you get regular traffic.

Keywords and keyphrases should be in the title of the Hub and a little bit in the text (naturally occurring). The search engine picks up on them. But you have to find specific ones that everyone else isn't using but still are being searched on the Net.
