Karma -- If I'm suffering now, does it mean I did or thought of something really bad in my past?
Sometimes if I feel or see injustice, I just say karma will take care of it. But, come to think of it, does it mean someone wished karma on me in the past, maybe because of something I did, such as enforcing a rule on a subordinate in the office in the past, and now I'm suffering because of it?
Karma is a Sanskrit word that simply means "action." With action there is cause and effect, hence the concept of karma as good or bad, and the tendency to always blame ourselves when "bad" things happen. Thought of in this way, karma becomes something like a bank account: you're either in the red or the black. What most people seem to miss about karma is that, because the whole world is one family (we are all connected), what everyone does or does not do has an effect on all of us to some degree. So karma is both about ourselves as individuals and about everyone else collectively. People cannot "wish" karma on you. http://durgama.com http://phoenixmetaphysicalinstitute.com http://learneasymeditation.com
You can see karma as a negative - punishment for your past - or as a learning experience and a motive to do better now.
In any case: karma does not mean that someone gets ill because other people wished it. It means that we get what we caused, one way or another.

I believe in Karma only to a small extent. I think that doing good things to other people will come back and you will receive help in return. I also think that everything you experience is designed to teach you something. If you're suffering you're supposed to learn from it and pass that knowledge on to someone you will meet in the future who needs help on that particular area in their life.
I have a friend who is part of the Eckankar religion which is largely based on karma (as far as I'm aware anyway). She believes that what happened in a past life affects you in this life, so maybe you did something in a past life that wasn't good for you, ie made a bad self choice that is hurting you now.
Growing up, we have a system of schooling, if we choose to follow on. We can go up to a phd. (as it is called in UK). It runs foundation levels -usually skipped- GCSE or O level, A levels. Higher Certificate, Diploma and Degree at University, A Masters Degree or Doctorate, then the phD.
Some pass with honours, others barely if at all. And all grades between. But from GCSE. You must -usually- have the lower qualification before you can enroll for the next level up.
Hope this answers your question in a positive way.
...Having said that, I might be biased as my life is ******!!!!!
I believe that we are all meant to have suffering in our lives, if it was all just good times we would never appreciate it. It's how you hold your head up and keep fighting during those bad times that makes you a better person.

I just went through one of the nastiest divorces on earth. My ex was wealthy, and we had no children. I did not work outside the home while we were married. He threw me out with the clothes on my back (literally) and then hired a high priced lawyer to take everything away from me but my cat, my...

As someone who values honesty, integrity, selflessness and compassion, I am astonished by the amount of self serving people that cross my path, who go out of their way to be mean and cash in on the misfortune of others. Obviously, I do not seek out their company but from a distance it would...

I didn't. I stepped away for about nine months for stupid reasons, which caused me to lose a lot of productivity time.I look at people who have been here for short periods of time who have written more hubs than me and it makes me more motivated than ever to be as great at this thing as I can...

What do you think of getting one-word comments? How do you feel when you get one-word comments on your hubs? I can't decide. I'm really pleased people bother to comment at all, but at the same time much prefer getting longer comments. I don't think I've ever left only a one-word comment on a hub or...
