A hub that simply links to a bunch of other writer's hubs

I looked at a featured hubber's hubs lastnight and noticed she had several hubs that were just a bunch of pictures. Then she also had hubs that were basically a Table of Contents linking to a bunch of other hubs on one general topic. She headed it up with a brief brief paragraph. Something seems wrong with this to me. Is this ok to do? Are bunches of people making money from doing this? Your input is appreciated. Thanks.

Heck no it's not ok!! LOL
If the entire hub is full of only pics, no text like many of the "indian actresses" hubs then I say flag it for being substandard or adult or whatever since the hubstaff has said they need these hubs to be flagged in order to find them smile

I also noticed these hubs taking over the featured hubs section and I think that is crap

I started a thread on that. I'm in the Entertainment Category, and I write hubs on the same. But everytime, all I see are hubs on naked Bollywood 'Aunties'!

I also noticed that but I think that hubber who keeps posting of an actress photo is a woman. I think you knew her too.

I don't think these types of hubs are ok. I think they are a waste of time.  I myself have flagged them before but nothing happened to them.

I doubt that hub with the links makes any money...goes to show you that just being featured has nothing to do with quality.

I was hesistant to flag it since this person has tons and tons of hubs and was featured, I figured her actions were acceptable. Now that I know better. It seemed kind of lazy just linking to a bunch of other people's writings. Also, just a bunch of sexy pictures of girls seems like cheating to me. I put thought and time into my hubs and if people are making money doing these other types of hubs, it kind of bothers me.

It is cheating imo  and it bothers most of us. It's aggravating and itrritating. If you think a hub like that is a poor example of a hub (ie no text/only pics/links etc) then I say flag the booger smile

It's been said here in the forums, by members of the hubteam, that if these hubs aren't flagged, they don't know they are there.

I was wondering about all those indian model hubs.  Aren't those just spam?

  6. bigmikeh profile image68

I used to flag the worst offenders but nothing happened - I don't have time to keep flagging them. Even those with comments like

I want to f*** you like a dog

and S*** my big c*** are still there.

Ultimately they will drag HubPages down in Google's opinion and that will effect us all.

Several inappropriate comments on a few hubs are probably not going to try HP down in Google's opinions.  There are far more graphic sites that come up high in search engine results.  Personally I just ignore the hubs that are not that interesting.

From what I understand, picture-only Hubs don't violate HubPages TOS, that's why they're still there.

I don't see anything wrong with a Hub that is only photos, provided the photos are good - and I suppose that's why they're allowed, because where do you draw the line?

A Hub that's simply links to other Hubs is also allowed.  It probably won't do the writer any good but the Hubbers she's linking to should be thankful.

I agree, hubs with just pictures and no text, or just links should be flagged.  But they are all over the place.

Hubpages should not feautre these as there is no original content or thought.

There is one hubber in the top with over 2,000 hubs, 2000 fans and LOTS of pictures...so I would guess there is a lot of time into this?  With that many fans, I doubt HP will take a second look there.

it really all comes back to the whole double standard. How are we not supposed to feel as if certain hubs/hubbers are having hubs banned unfairly, when hubs such as the ones in question are allowed to stay up.

The hubTeam has said in the past that these hubs are only up because they had not been flagged and brought to their attention. But, reading what hubbers are saying on this thread, it sounds as if they actually are being flagged and yet nothing is being done still.

I'm interested to know once and for all where the line is drawn. What is acceptable and what is not because, despite what the TOS may say, it seems to all fall on opinion of the one doing the banning.

And, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't substandard/poor quality hubs considered hubs with little or no text and full of only links/pictures. That's what it says in the help sect. under why a hub would be flagged

Bear in mind, when you use the word "unfair", that it's not Hubpages that sets the rules which TOS are based on.  It's Adsense.

The main purpose of this site is to write articles which earn money through Adsense.  If enough Hubbers break Adsense's rules, Google will slap HubPages or worse, ban us all - and then everyone loses.  We may think Adsense's rules are stupid, inconsistent or unreasonable but the point is, they pay the bills.

If some Hubbers don't want to follow the rules, they can start their own blog or go to a site that doesn't use Adsense.

I believe what she means is that the rules should apply to everyone not only a few. I see the point you are trying to address however I also see hers. smile

          Thanks AE wink

That is what I meant precisely and I do understand the whole AdSense pays the bills. But my beef is that we were told basically to flag hubs like that although ut seems to do no good

I've been looking for where we were told to flag hubs like this, all I could find in the Help section is this definition of sub-standard:

            ""Test" or otherwise unfinished hubs
            Very little content
            Unoriginal or purely personal content
Contributes nothing new in a heavily saturated topic
Many broken links or links to low quality sites
Links with deceptive or inaccurate link text
            Missing videos"

You'll notice it says "very little content", not "very little text".

I'm hoping Maddie will chime in to clarify, or maybe you've got a link to a relevant forum discussion where she did?

Adult - Nudity, sexually explicit content or links to adult or pornography sites
Gambling - Promotes gambling or links to sites that promote or offer gambling for money
Spam - Solely promotes another site, especially when Hub links all point to one site
Low Quality - Empty, nearly empty or could not be useful or interesting to anyone
Miscategorized or Deceptively Tagged or Titled - Hub is in the wrong category, or contains misleading title or tags that don’t match the Hub’s content; includes irrelevant, and excessive tagging
Not Written In English - Primarily written in a language other than English
Duplicate - You believe the text content of this hub was copied from another source
Other - Violates the HubPages Terms of Use in a way other than those listed above
Copyright violation? If this Hub copies content owned by you without your permission, please follow these instructions for report

I believe it could possibly fall under low quality or other
where you provide a brief explanation. smile

AEvans, "low quality" and "sub standard" sound like the same thing.  The main criteria seems to be that it has to be empty or nearly empty.  Whether a Hub is useful or interesting to anyone is a matter of opinion - and photo Hubs get a lot of traffic, so clearly they ARE interesting to a lot of people.

SirDentposted 14 years agoin reply to this

As Marissa pointed out, we are asked to flag only those hubs that go against the TOS. The photo hubs do not go against the TOS of HubPages unless they are pornographic. Everything was spelled out in what constitutes porn in the TOS. Flagging hubs simply because you do not like them only causes staff to have to look at hubs that are in compliance with the TOS. It wastes times that they need to do more important things.  If you come across a hub that you do not like, it only takes one click of your mouse to leave the page and go to another.

I think people are forgetting the fact that we all have the power to deny or delete comments on our hubs. So it is the publishers fault is dirty comments are left in my opinion.

    unless I am mistaken.

I think flickr prefers it if you post photographs you actually have a right to...like pictures you have taken yourself. It has been argued that Indian pictures have no copyright and anyone can take them...I somehow doubt that. I almost always ignore these hubs. To me if you are going to have all pictures you should at least have a paragraph of text with each. But that is just me.

This anti-picture-hub sentiment shows up in the forums from time to time. I only flag them if they have adult content (ie show nipples) smile

I have some models hubs and they work for me.  I certainly couldn't find a list of the top 10 english male PR female models out there so wrote one and it begged for good photos.

But i do lingerie, pubic hair, models and not a nipple in sight (except on the men).  Just making sure people know you CAN do a decent photo based hub or one on strong topics without crossing the sanity line.

very right! infact if people start publishing photo hubs, the quality pf traffic will be people searching for Indian sexy actresses not the genuine text content and what i know of google that they cant read photos but only the title of the photo and text content. so in a longer run if more of the pic oriented hubs come around it will eventually decrease the quality score of HP in google eyes!
dont't all of us agree on that?

If that's the case, then the HP team will take steps to discourage them.  It's their business after all.  It's not our decision.
