Should children be allowed to watch horror films? When is it ok?
Yeah its depends on children either they love it or they scared of it, but i think Yes
They can watch at any age as long as they do not get scare . . . .
I think children should be allowed to watch horror movies, but judging movies on a movie by movie basis, and incorporating what you know about your kid. If you know your kid is still to immature to watch something, obviously they shouldn't be seeing it. But if you know your kid can handle the concepts in the movie, or at least can understand them after you explain them, I see no reason why they can't.
I was restricted from watching all horror films and anything with any violence in it when I was growing up. Not Freddy, not Batman, not the Karate Kid, not TMNT, not even the Bettlejuice cartoon (which I freakin' LOVE and am sure I would've loved as a kid) nothing. Zilch. When I was 18 I saw my first scary movie (Gremlins) and I had nightmares and had trouble sleeping for two weeks. At 18! This continued with subsequent movies (Zombie Lake, Poltergeist, Friday 13th...) All because I had never been desensitized to it. Go figure that now, at 27 one of my favorite shows is Dexter.... lol
Never. Horror movies r never good 4 any 1 of any age. I don't even watch that trash.
I don't feel like it's ok. There is always too much violence and sex in horror films. If it isn't that it's the language. I don't want my kids watching something that will influence their behavior in any kind of way. It's bad enough they pick up things from the other kids at school sometimes I don't need to add to it from home. That's just how I feel.
never
movies are not good for children its just like waste of time
I think it depends upon the child. I have to say though that so many of these films have horrifying visuals that can haunt a person for a lifetime. Most kids have never seen anything so horrible until they've seen it in a movie. I think real life can be scary enough without adding those images that are so haunting.
Having said that, my husband and I never agreed on this subject. He had nightmares for years after his Dad took him to see The Omen at six years old. He wanted to do the same with our daughter! It never made sense to me. My daughter is very sensitive and images stick in her mind. Now that her dad has left, we stick to the Disney channel and other programs that are easier on the brain. Some people are not touched by the films, while others are.
When she is older and has a better idea regarding what really scares her and what does not, she'll be free to watch them. I cannot watch them, as they stay with me. She is 12 now and certainly not ready for them. I do not know at what age in particular she will be ready, but we will keep our communication open and decide as we go along.
