Would you rather receive an all-expenses paid vacation or the same amount in cash?

Would you rather receive an all-expenses paid vacation anywhere in the world, or the same amount (valued) paid to you in cash?

Well it would depend on what value "valued" means. But most likely due to rough times, the cash.

I'd take the cash. I like to travel, but I'm not very good at actually getting out and doing stuff when I'm somewhere new, so I wouldn't really get my money's worth out of the vacation. And with the money I could buy something that will last a lot longer than a vacation.

That would depend upon: a) where the vacation was to be spent, b) with whom I was going to spend it, and, c) what the amount of money was, that was involved.

Cash - it pays the bills... even though I really could use a vacation right now!

I don't like to travel so I would like the have the same amount in cash so I could do things to my house, or fix things up.

Give me the cash! in today's economy I can take a daycation to the local mall and feel relieved with only spending a fraction of the overall prize smile

I'd take the cash and go on vacation. Because I'm smart.

I am a 'home body' so I would prefer the value paid in cash.  I am not much of a 'traveler'.

I LOVE to travel, but I'd still take the cash smile  Usually those types of vacations send you to an all-inclusive resort, cruise, or other tropical place where you lounge around and do nothing... I like exploring, being free to choose where I go, where I stay, and what museums or restaurants I visit.  Plus I'm still young and not afraid of hostels or cheap lodging, so I'd ultimately have a better vacation AND money leftover.

Depends on the vacation offered; since I have small children, i would take the cash and pay off some bills.

Cash of course, I'm far more confident in my ability to take a day trip or overnighter somewhere cheap, than to go on say...a luxury cruise. That being said, I do hope to go on a cruise one day. I had planned to when I got back from Iraq...

    Meh...

Cash, that way you can take a vacation and leave enough money left over to pay the taxes due at the end of the tax year. If you take the vacation instead of the cash, you'll owe a hefty amount of tax.

Vacation, you can't buy memories like that, well in a sense. I would rather the vacation if I could bring my family along and such. smile

I'd take the cash.  We could use the money for other things that will last more than a week's vacation.

However, if you had asked me that question before the recession,  I would have taken the vacation, hands down.

Depends on if I get to choose the location for the vacation. But I'd probably choose vacation. Otherwise I'd end up spending the money on bills, which is not as much fun.

Right now I would say cash but 2 years from now I would go with the vacation.

I would prefer the cash...you can then choose what you want to do with it.

I would chose the cash and buy items that I would use frequently. This way I would enjoy continuous benefits instead of just memories.
