Are men and women intellectually and emotionally equal?

In many related discussion, the general consensus is that gender has no role in individual traits.  They say it is the individual that is different and it is not gender-specific.  Is this view true?

generally speaking i think it is. i do believe that women tend to have a stronger head when family is concerned though. i don't think the difference between men and women can be measured because everyone is different. my biggest gripe against women is that too many of them blame men for the need to wear makeup, sexy clothing and general appearance . if women just decided to keep their selves natural, men would still want them.

I don't think so, every one is different, doesn't matter what sex you are, and depends on whether you are left brained, right brained, centered brained. Emotionally girls do mature faster than boys, by two years. It still is complicated to say. You can't say they will ever be equal because different men are more mature than other men at different ages. It just depends on the person. Women are generally the same, different levels of intellectual and emotional growth. No two are the same!

Intellectually I think men and women are equals, however emotionally I think women take the cake!

You can actually tell a female brain from a male brain. Something about the central cortex and how thick it is. You can even tell if someone is prone to being homoesexual or lesbian by looking at their brain. It is slightly gender related. Males are normally logical while females are emotional. However, these thought process sometime varies.

    This is tough to answer.
I think society judges and uses stero types.
So, I think Men are considered intellectually and emotionally not equal as men hold their emotions well, women do not.

I do not know whether I am right or wrong but I would say that men and women are intellectually equal but perhaps women, in general, are more emotional than men.

women are intelligent in the female category.a smaller percentage of men in the male category.when you compare the two against each other they roughly equal out. and  women are more emotional then men

Women are far superior emotionally. They are encouraged to express their emotions from an early age, while men are taught to suppress them.

I do agree with some posts here. From my point of view, men and women are intellectually equal but they tend think in different ways. Generally speaking women are more emotional and men are more rational. I guess that´s one of the reasons why they complete each other so nicely

I think men, as studies show, are slightly more intelligent. They are more likely to become geniuses and dominate the higher end of the intelligence scale.

As for emotion i would argue men are better in this respect too. Women are more emotional, but less altruistic and much more selfish than men. Women might have more emotion but they tend not to act on it correctly, where as men do. Greater success in art, poetry and music also suggests men are more compassionate and empethetic.
