   Is it right to judge the leadership qualities of a player because of his activities off the field?
   
   How far is it right to expect our mega sports stars to live a clean life and come back home early when all we do is rush on like maniacs whenever a new sex scandal news hit the market shores?
   Act like a fair soul human soul! What right do we have to punish others? It seems that a less guilty person is favored against the one who has committed bigger sins.
   The society rules must be changed soon! Otherwise we would end-up eating our own health.

   I agree with you. Actually, our media people have compulsion to do this to keep themselves at top in the media leadership race. Height of this none sense can be judged by coverage of birthday and private parties of celebrities. Our news channel never look for an invitation from the celebrities to participate in their private parties. Best examples are marriage celebrations of M S Dhoni & Abhishek Bachchan. It should be made a punishable crime if personal things of the celebrities are made public without the permission of celebrities. Society should allow celebrities to have their private life.

   A good leader not only has skill but the qualities to lead effectively. It is both hypocritical and confusing to expect others to follow your lead when you don't follow your own.
   That said; when it comes to footballers  I don't give a sh*t what they do as long as they play a good game of football.
   I do think the media should respect the privacy of celebs, but they will do what they have to, to sell their papers. That's their job after all. Perhaps it's the public that should take less interest in the gory details of the rich and famous. Who knows they may even pay more attention to their own lives and actually improve it, instead of justifying their wrongs because they're not as bad as some celeb.

   Leadership qualities? Sorry, but unless the player has a leadership position on his team (team captain, quarterback, whatever), it's wrong to credit him with leadership qualities in the first place.
   
   For good or ill, people all over the world look up to guys who can put a ball through a hoop or into a net or over the fence or past the batter (or batsman). I can understand that admiration. If I wanted to be a great athlete, I'd want to emulate someone who already is. The problem comes when we blur the athlete's performance on the field with his behavior off it. A great athlete might be a complete jerk. That doesn't make him any less admirable as an athlete, but it makes him not admirable at all as a person.
   
   It sure would be nice, though, if people (athletes or otherwise) who are admired would be sensible of the fact that people admire them, and did their best to provide a good example. Are they required to? Nope. But it would be nice.

   Well, I don't think its right, still they are suppose to lead by example and if they are not judged, there would likely be worse situation of such activities off or on the field.

   In some instances yes, because leadership is follower-ship with the power of the people whom you lead. They look up to you in everything except may be their life. Your actions and in-actions has a direct effects on the lives of those you lead, it is only normal for a leader to be of the best character on and off the field.

   @ Jeff Berndt. I appreciate that you have taken some time to sit and write your views on it.
   Such a tricky prospect. I agree that they should be loved for their actions on the field and not hated for wrong-doing off the field. We love them for what they have achieved or done as a player.
