   How do you protect yourself on the internet?
   
   Almost everyone goes online.  From malicious content and payload to identity theft, the online world can be dangerous.  How do you protect yourself on the internet?

   It's a good idea to keep you personal life personal (keep sensitive info like your address, birth date, etc., off line and out of public view.)  For some more great tips to protect yourself on the internet (especially on social media networks) you can check out my hub on detecting and protecting against frenemies.

   One thing I like is called WOT (Web of Trust).  It is a browser add-on that can be used to let you know what sites are trustworthy and which are not.  A colored ring will show up next to the link on search engines.  For example, green would be safe and trustworthy, where red would not be as trustworthy.  I never click on red links!  They are usually prone to malware and spyware, etc.

   I keep my passwords current and change the now and again using nothing familiar to anyone I might know or who knows my information.   I keep my personal information to myself and I also keep a close eye on my accounts and the bank to be sure nothing shows up in or out that is not valid.
   
   I would love to go to Ancestry.com and search out family but there you would be giving birth dates and maiden names  - too much personal information to be safe.

   I think the best protection on the Internet, is attention to the sites and emails received. If you do not go clicking on everything you see or accessing unknown sites. Certainly will be safe. Addition to not add to social networks and instant messaging programs unknown users. And to ensure an antivirus program. But most of the attention

   Use an antivirus such as "Sophos Endpoint Security and Control".... Always use an antivirus on your PC no matter what... Many people underestimate just how many malicious websites there are out there. These websites can literally take over your machine by forcing your web browser to perform unintended actions.

   I am totally agreed with efroide and his answer that don't click on every websites and don't put your personal information openly in public see area.

   I am always changing my passward and I never give out my personal information. When I am on the computer I only do what I have to then I am off again. I often run a program that cleans my computer so it helps it run smoother and has no record of what sites I have been on.
