   My very best childhood memory is working along side my parents in our fields when we planted vegetables that would fill our tummies in subsequent months. The gathering in was equally wonderful I can still feel and smell that loam as we dug potatoes from the ground, ate strawberries and blackberries from the plants, gathered in all of those glorious foods to dine on year after year.

   My best childhood memory is the love my dad and mom had for their children.
   We enjoyed sitting around the fireplace telling stories and enjoying the toasty fire that always reminded me of a window to the world. Looking into a good fire is comparable to gazing at the ocean. They both, in a strange way, seem to invite entrance into an exciting and adventurous world. They both mesmerize and prompt dreams of long ago and faraway places. This was special to us because it was family time, a break from chores and sibling rivalry, and a time to simply enjoy each other.

   My favorite childhood memory was when my family and I went smelt fishing. Our stepfather loved to fish. It was late March and we went out by Lake Michigan. My mom packed up some food for us and we had warm blankets; we all were dressed in layers of clothing. My stepfather had set up his nets in the water by all those large boulders by the lake. After that, he built a fire which we all gathered around. When my stepfather checked his nets, they were filled with large smelts. We all pitched in to help him to get the fish out of the nets. My mom had brought along a skillet, some other cooking utensils, and the seasoning for the fish. We she was done cooking those smelts, I tell you, they were delicious!!!!! Even though the weather was brisk, that was the most wonderful evening we shared as a family.You could see the city skyline that bounced off of the shimmering water. It was a beautiful sight!!!!!!

   My best childhood memory is my mom making fried chicken and banana pudding ... and then all of us going to the lake to swim and go boating.. and sitting around thanksgiving and Christmas laughing and eating.. those were great memories. i really miss that.

   My best memory is having Christmas with my mother, sisters, brothers, and grandmother, when she was still living. My mother use to make fudge and divinity that tasted so good. My mother got a coo-koo clock for my grandmother. It was wrappped in Christmas paper, and I gave  my grandma a hint, I told her that it went coo-koo. The family would gather together and open Christmas presents, which was lots of fun!

   Everyday with my family was the best time of our lives. I don't care if we were gettin our due beatin for all the wrong we did that day or tearin down my grannyma's house while she was at work, today they are all great memories that we love to talk about when (every time)we're together now,lol.
   
   ...But truely my best memories are of sunday mornings. Sometimes it would be my 2 gurl cousins, my granny and I. We'd sit on the porch in the sun with our night gowns on, and sip coffee. After granny played her numbas we all went into the kitchen and got ready to cook while everyone else what at church. We went to evening service later...Sometimes I still go over to my grannys and we cook,lol. I love my lady.

   I loved it when we went out in the boat on Port Phillip Bay. We'd put down the hand-lines and catch lovely, sweet flathead. Dad would skin and gut while Mother made a batter and then deep-fried them. The remaining batter became 'puftaloonies' with tiny morsels of bacon added. After tea, Dad would get out the folding harmonium and as the sun went down we chose hymns and choruses to sing. With nobody around, we could sing as loudly as we wished. As it darkened, it seemed as if we could just reach out and touch the stars. Then bedding was spread and we were gently rocked to sleep watched over by that shining firmament.
