I get myself to motivate to study by thinking "its almost over" the sooner you start it, the sooner you will get it done. If you don't like to read get a radio and turn it on very low music to help get yourself motivated also. Sometimes that works too.

I've never had the problem of motivation for studying. I love reading and studying all different types of material. My husband says my idea of a little light reading is a textbook. He's right, lol. I'm currently "reading" Basic Medical Biochemistry by Michael Lieberman, PhD and Allan Marks, MD. The only reason I'm reading it, is because I find it fascinating. There have been several nights when I've had to scramble to make something for dinner because I lost track of time, and "I just wanted to finish the next chapter..." In order to really stick with it and actually learn and understand the material, you have to really want it.

Now, how do I motivate myself to clean is a whole other story! lol

Go volunteer at McDonald's for a day working the fry vats.  That should do it.

Set a timer!  Start off with 20 minute increments then stretch it out to 25, 30 etc. Have a 5 to 10 minute break, during which time you can consume the chocolate, coffee or any other physical motivator, then back to the computer.

Make out a timetable for the number of hours needed for study each day.
Add in a 10 to 15 mins break for every hour of study.
Devise a plan of what you are going to study for each day and get it done, no matter what.
Tick off the amount covered each day off the list. (The actual ticking off is important).
Breaks, plans and ticking off help the mind to concentrate and cope with the amount of time involved.
A little reward at the end of each day is also very helpful.
Keep the study regular and steady - no large amounts of study and then nothing for a long time. It's the steady flow and regular rhythm that helps.

I think about and plan to do something I absolutely love to do once I accomplish my task of studying. Plus....I pick classes that I will enjoy learning about.

Thanks for all your replies so far.  Some great suggestions there!  I am luckily doing a course that I'm really interested in, and I'm very excited about.  The main problem is that it's a lot of work and I can see it stretching out before me!  Also as it's online there's no teacher or fellow students to spur me on.  So I need to spur myself on...  Your ideas of rewards and timetables will help me to be disciplined I'm sure.

One must amass a proclivity towards your greatest desire, chocolate!

I suppose the greatest motivator is keeping your reason for pursuing online studies first in your mind. You are taking a course as a means of achieving a dream or bettering yourself. Keep that in mind when the tedium of study begins to discourage you.

Set up a good study environment. Good lighting, comfortable seating, no distractions. Keep it a routine.

With me its all about my environment. I have to be relaxed and stress-free or I cant concentrate on anything. Use a planner or calender and keep yourself organized so you always know what you need to work on and are prepared. Oh.. maybe think about how much the course cost, I'm sure that's gotta be motivational.

When I was a student I use to motivate myself by tuning out the rest of the world. This meant, turning off my phone, TV and radio. Silence was my biggest motivator.

Remind yourself how you'll end up nowhere in life if you keep procrastinating. The thought of living in a dumpster is good motivation for me.

    1. Make every thought serve you and move you forward

    2. Get some comrades and spend time with them

    3. Visualise yourself taking action

    4. Remind yourself that this won’t go on forever
