What was the best short vacation you ever took?
By short vacation I mean like 2 or 3 days. Did you go to a museum, hiking, etc? Tell me about it.
This past weekend, I went to Altanta with my aunt, uncle, husband and a couple of our friends. It was a nice trip. We relaxed, ate too much of good food, and I also got to see one of my really good friends who lives there. It has been about 3 years since I last saw her, so it was really nice to see her.
When my kids were little we took a lot of 2 to 3 day vacations because it was all we could afford. They were always camping and the destination was always an amusement park. I have to say every one of them was good because we were together as a family having fun.
I would have to say the beach. Get a hotel on the beach for a couple days, doing nothing but collect shells, watch the sun rise and sun set over the ocean.
When we lived and went to college in Southern Virginia, we drove up to D.C. for a 3 day weekend. Spent our time touring all the free stuff on the mall like the Washington Monument, Air & Space Museum, National Gallery of Art, Natural History Museum. It was SO fun and did I mention - cheap!
It was a weekend on the shores of Lake Kariba at a tourist resort in a town called Siavonga in Zambia. My husband and I took time to be just the two of us and what a wonderful time we had watching the fishermen, taking a boat ride as close to the waterfall as we could get, sitting by the quiet waters and viewing the endless watery horizon. It was really beautiful, the ride was also part of the fun.
I visited New York City to enroll my daughter in NYU but only dashed in and dashed out. After that initial trip, I visited several times and had the opportunity and honor to visit Madison Square Garden in New York City when my daughter marched for her BA in Film making. New York is over the top when it comes to eating out. Each portion size of any meal is twice the size of any other state. The fast food restaurants are embedded into tiny spaces but New York knows how to house millions in a small area. Construction is ever present in New York but the trip was well worth it and I got a chance to visit China Town as well.
Going on fishing trips have always been great vacations. Grab the bass boat and camping gear go to a random lake on the map fish all day and have good time cooking food with friends in the evening.
6 days in Bali last August , white water rafting, elephant trekking, surfing, quad biking through the jungle,,, magical
My husband and I took a quick flight to New Orleans for a long weekend a while back and loved every minute of it. Great food, great people-watching, great music--everything was wonderful. We only had one night booked when we got there, and there were several conventions in town, so we didn't know where we'd spend the rest of our stay, but our concierge hooked us up with a company that managed private homes for lease when the owners were away. We ended up staying in a historic carriage house-turned-home, which added even more local flavor to our visit. So many happy memories...
I had a great two day trip to France a few years back. We took the train out to Landrecies and then walked down the canal to Ors and saw Wilfred Owen's grave. We got drenched- it rained in the morning, even though it was early August- and my legs ached so bad by the time we were done because I ended up walking about 30km that day but I really enjoyed it.
A hotel in the same town my husband and I live in.

Lots. I've done many one day trips to places close to my hometown like Genting and Cameron Highlands, and to Kuala Sepetang .You can read my hubs to learn more about these places...
We flew to San Francisco for less than 26 hours in order to meet my husband's frequent flyer goal for the year. He gets a lot of frequent flyer points and hotel points, so other than his flight (which he needed for status)and the car rental the trip was free. We went to Sausalito for lunch, relaxed (no kids!) at the hotel, slept late, walked to Chinatown and explored the side streets and back alleys and then finished up by the bay. It was fun and is the shortest vacation we ever had!
Key West is a great short vacation destination. The night life is great (although sometimes interesting), and the atmosphere is laid back and fun. A great trip for 2 or 3 days.
Tybee Island, Georgia is a great place to visit for a day, weekend or full vacation. read more

Unfortunately, I was in a cranky mood all morning. But then the sun came out and I was better. We had another beautiful sunny day here and it's supposed to be a sunny weekend.
