Do you know of any songs that are just about a woman's name?
I can only remember, "Valerie" by Amy Winehouse and "Jolene" by Dolly Parton. Thanks
One of my favorites..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqXek853SDE&feature=related
Sweet Melissa by the Allman Brothers is the only one I can think of.
Yes , Lady-E ,
I like & remember the song entitled :
"Bernadette" by The Four Tops...
Great-Song.
Louise written by Paul Siebel and performed by Bonnie Raitt and Leo Kottke (separately).
Windy, by the Association.
Lucille by BB KIng (actually its the name of his guitar)
Maria from West Side Story
Oh Carol, written and recorded by Chuck Berry, then the Rolling Stones.
Nadine/Chuck Berry.
Peggy Sue/ Buddy Holly, or was that Buddy Holly and the Crickets, or was it just when they were called the Crickets?

There was a Family guy episode entitled Ocean's Three and a half that has a very great joke about this very topic. Stewie shared with Brian that he is writing a song about his new girlfiend and Brian jokes that they aren't a million of of those. Stewie challenges him to name 20. Brian without missing a beat rattles off twenty. Stewie screams for 5 more. Brian counters with 4 more. This goes back and forth for another minute until Stewie tires and tell Brian what to go do with himself. The rant can be found here on Wikiquote.

Remember that episode of "Cheers" wherein Woody Harrelson was trying to impress his well-heeled girlfriend by writing a song about her? The lyrics were: "Kelly, Kelly, Kelly.... etc... indefinitely......
"Michelle, Ma Belle" by the Beatles
"Suzanne" by Leonard Cohen
Billie Jean by Michael Jackson and Sarah by Hall and Oates.
Mandy by Barry Manilow. Roxanne by The Police, Maybelline by Chuck Barry. Just to mention a few that were not already listed.
There's Athena by The Who off of It's Hard, not well known, but still
Fom "The Sound Of Music" there's "How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria"
"Sarah" by Jefferson Starship (I think)
"Mandy" by Barry Manilow
"Julia" and "Penny Lane" by The Beatles
"Candy" by The Presidents Of The United States Of America
"Lola" by Motley Crew
"Nikita" by Elton John
"Nikki" by Prince
I think "My Sweet Maria" (?) by Better Than Ezra
There's also others that we can't remember the artists to like:
- "Brandy"
- "Corina"
- "Mustang Sally"
- "Sunny"
- There's also the old songs "My Darling Clementine" and "Oh Suzanna"
Hope that helps!
- S. and Chris
Some of these may be repeats:
Maria -- West Side Story
Tammy
Wendy
Valerie was also sun by the Monkees
Mandy
Liza With A Z--Liza Minnelli
Sweet Caroline--Neil Diamond
Dinah
Diana by Paul Anka
Oh Suzanna
Venus
Sunny
Annie's Song
and a whole bunch more.
here what I've got:
Believe me Nataile by The Killers
Mary Jane by Alanis Morisette
Jenny from the block by Jennifer Lopez
Iris by the Go Go Dolls
Candy by Mandy Moore
Doesn't anybody remember Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons? They had a huge smash with "Sherry"--and a non-smash with "Connie-O."
And I don't think anybody mentioned the old ballad "Barbara Allen."
Amazing omission: the Beach Boys' "Barbara Ann." (May have been on some of those lists, but I don't count those, they are no fun.)
More recently (and in much darker veins), we should probably count "Jane Says" by (who else?) Jane's Addiction, and "Janie's Got A Gun," by Aerosmith.
Lightening up (and adding a corn- or cheese-factor) there's always "Mame," from the Broadway songbook. (OK, Jerry Herman actually wrote it.)
How about the folk revival era? There was "Good Night, Irene" which, though associated with the Weavers in the 1950s, was created in its current form by Huddie Leadbetter (AKA "Leadbelly"), drawing on folk sources--he credited his uncle Terrell with teaching him an earlier form of the song.
ya there is lot of songs about women's
Mandy,Billie Jean,Bernadette........... so on

As a musician and music lover, I have grappled with an answer to this question since MJ's sad passing, if there ever will be one.To me, good music entertains us. But great music must inspire and fuel passion within us. It may even change the way we view the world and hopefully for the better. For...

I've been trying to remember -- off and on for about two days -- the name of the British, good-looking, brown haired young male singer in the mid to late 1960's. I can't even remember the name of one of his songs but I know I really liked his songs. We were living in Canada at the time, but I...

I think "Man In The Mirror" represents Mike best. He was about everything good. He wanted people to change their thinking and behaviors. This would change how people treat each other and the environment.
