   My brother and one of my olders sisters and I ran away to take care of ourselves when I was in 3rd grade.  We knew our parents were having a hard time taking care of us, so we figured we could pack enough food for a few days.  We planned to live in a nearby wooded creek area.  Plenty of trees for shelter, a water source, and lots of little woodland creatures for food.  I suppose we were imagining ourselves like the characters in The Box Car Children.
   
   We were only gone a few hours and the thought occurred: our parents would be getting worried about us.

   Yes. My childhood sucked. Before age 14 I had runaway more than 50 times but the cops kept taking me back home.

   I ran away in first grade because I forgot to wear my hat home from school and my mother said, "Go find it and don't come back until you do!"
   
   By the time I got back to school the only person around was the janitor. He was really nice and walked me to my locker and helped me look around for the hat, but it wasn't there. So I left and started walking the other direction.
   
   I was crying pretty hard, but after a few blocks I realized I didn't have to go home! This was like, the best news EVER. (I started saving money to leave home when I was in kindergarten.) Like another poster here I had read "The Boxcar Children" so I figured survival would be no problem. All I had to do was find a place to hang out with some other kids with sad or mad parents.
   
   I had walked about 5 miles by time it started getting dark and I wasn't sad anymore but I was really hungry. I recognized a house as belonging to one of my grandmother's bridge club friends, so I knocked on the door, introduced myself in case she didn't remember me, and asked if I could have a sandwich as I was on my way to my grandmother's house and hadn't eaten.
   
   She was really nice, made me a sandwich and a glass of milk and sat me down at the table, then went in the next room and made a phone call. I immediately thought, uh oh. But I trusted her not to rat me out so I put it out of my head.
   
   Within about 15 minutes my parents were at the door.
   
   Damn.
   
   I got sent to my room but just for that night, and nothing was ever said about it again.

   i did when i was a kid but i cant remember why now. i lived in arizona, and i planned on going to tx to be with my dad. i walked across the interstate to a restaurant, spent part of the night in a dog house behind it and the rest of the night under a rug in the ice/vendor room. the next morning a family friend bought me breakfast. i went out back where a couple of horses were kept intending to take one to get me to tx. the horse seemed willing enough for me to get on him, but the moment i was on him, he started running around their pen til i fell off. so i went across the railroad tracks to another family friend, who ended up calling mom and letting her know where i was. i didnt get into trouble though thankfully. it is funny how the minds of small kids work. so dumb to think i could just take a horse and ride it from Az to Tx, lol.

   I "ran away" in the Summer after my freshman (first) year of college.  I wanted to be near that gorgeous creature who had won my heart...... BUT, she had other ideas.... and told me - in essence - "take a hike"......  Broke my heart.....
   
   Running away, in this case, meant moving more than 100 miles from "home".... tho' I had made arrangements - with friends - such that I had a place to live... AND I got a well-paid job the first day I was there....
   
   Incidentally, the night she "broke up" with me I had taken her to see the New Engalnd premier of "Easy Rider," in Boston.... Oh well.... her loss....

   No, I never ran away when I was a kid. I remember thinking about it when I was sent to my room for mis-behaving, but I always reflected on it and decided that running away was not going to solve anything.
   
   I really never had any true reason to run away anyways. I had two parents who loved me very much and I knew that running away would cause them a lot of pain.

   I did in elementary because my mom made me really mad so I  thought I'd run away and do things on my own. I only left for a few hours but got scared when I saw an alligator and ran home. (lived in florida by the intercoastal
