   Has anyone ever heard of a preacher refusing to speak at the funeral of a "lost" man?
   
   My brother was in an accident and my family and I weren't sure if he was going to pull through.  A preacher that came to the hospital said that he hoped my brother regained consciousness long enough to be saved because he couldn't preach at a lost man's funeral as a matter of principle.
   Thankfully my brother survived and the preacher's services were not required.
   Has anyone else heard of this self-righteousness?

   And I have never attended a funeral where the person wasn't going to heaven or "a better place".

   Regretfully, I have to answer, "yes." There are preachers, out there, who are too self-righteousness to "preach" the funeral of a "sinner," or "lost person." They do not see the big picture that Jesus presented in his "walk on the face of the earth, when he said, "for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." I can go on and on and on, on this subject, but I want. We know right from wrong, and some things just "rings" wrong. One does not have to be a theological genus or a rocket scientist to see the wrongness in something is is obviously wrong.

   The preacher needs to stop 'preaching' a lot of crap! There is no way that anyone goes to hell or goes to any other negative state just because they haven't had a few words said over them. I think the only person who is 'lost' is the preacher himself!
   
   But on the lighter side - I'm glad that your brother did survive!

   Sorry this happened to you.  No preacher, or anyone else for that matter, has the right to conclude that a particular person is in heaven or hell. Can any human read the heart as our Lord does?
   
   I've always regarded the opportunity to preach at a "lost" persons funeral as a positive. You celebrate the life just ended and entrust his soul to God who is all just and loving.  Leave it there.  Then point the living to the gospel and a loving God.

   I have never heard of such a thing but the fact that a "man of God" would utter those words is troubling.   A person's salvation or lack there of shouldn't be a pre-requisite to speak at a funeral.  Afterall, the funeral isn't for the deceased.  It's for the love ones who have been left behind to cope with the loss.  I would think that he would feel sadness about the fact that your brother was a lost man, but great anticipation in the fact that he'd have the opportunity to win other "lost souls" to the kingdom.  All that said, only God can detremine who's lost and even when he does he makes attemps to bring the loss one back to the fold.  The bible says that he'll leave the 99 in order to seek the lost one out and bring him back.  That's how God feels about the lost and as ministers of the gospel we should too.  Sorry to hear about your experience but thank God that your brother is well.
