In the U.S. what state do you find you love most and why?
I love New York because of the 4 seasons, the lakes, streams, rivers, rolling hills, farms, valleys, gorges, waterfalls, wineries and the fact it has almost every country compacted into one state. Although I have visited almost all of the continental states, I am biased when it comes to my loyalty to the Empire State.
I agree with you, upstate NY, and my other favorite is Connecticut
I love the Fall foliage there. The colors are so vivid and beautiful, and with the cool weather, it's totally Awesome!
Ithaca, the Finger Lakes, the St. Lawrence Seaway, the Thousand Islands, the Adirondack Mountains and Niagara Falls are all high on my list of favorites. In Connecticut, I like Mystic and Foxwoods Casino.
Love the finger lake area..... But travel up on route 84 in CT toward Mass..... There is nothing up there except woods, the hills and foliage.... The view is breath taking!
I have so many favorites for different reasons it's hard to pick one - Washington state was beautiful when I was there, the redwoods in California, the mountains in Colorado, and I love Savannah Ga/Tybee island with the dolphins and sea turtles and it's the cleanest beach I've ever been to. Wow, how can you pick just one? I don't think I can. I haven't had the pleasure of being to upstate New York yet though so that's probably why I hope to make it there as well.
You certainly did pick some great spots and states. I love the water, so that is always a factor for me, but I also treasure the 4 seasons and the beauty each one holds.
South Florida, taking weekend trips to the Keys is about the closest thing to paradise you're going to find in the U.S.
I've never been to the Keys, although I have visited Orlando, Cape Kennedy, Daytona and my favorite Florida city St. Augustine. I love the history and narrow streets and simply put, the festive atmosphere it offers. Humidity kills me though.
I don't know about the whole state, but I love the Austin, Texas area. The Hill Country is wonderful and Bastrop State Park is one of my favorite places anywhere. I love Michigan because it is where I grew up. I am also very fond of West Virginia. Great camping there.
I've only been to the Panhandle of Texas but never farther south. Michigan's Great Lake shoreline is magnificent and I agree West Virginia is a very scenic state to visit, although I have never camped there.
This question and all the answers are making me want to hop on a motorcycle and hit the open road. It really is a magnificent country, and there are so many places I haven't been.
Maryland! Not nearly as flat as Florida (my home state) nor as hot. While I've seen some terrible winters Maryland still doesn't get as bad as per se Michigan. Not many people talk about MD but I love its proximity to the District, Philadelphia, and the mountains. Annapolis is beautiful, too!
You make a good point Kevin regarding not much chatter about Maryland. The Baltimore Inner Harbor is exquisite and many who work in D.C. and Arlington commute back to MD.
I've been to 26 of the 50 states and California, my current home, is by far my favorite. I love and appreciate the diversity of its people and geography. Also, a little secret, here in the San Francisco Bay Area we do enjoy the four seasons just in a much more milder form. The wine country in autumn is a pallet of Fall colors and beauty. In the winter I can look north from my driveway and see a snow capped Mt. St. Helena at times. In the Spring you'd swear you were in Ireland.
Having visited California on several occasions I understand why you love your state. Scenic views do offer a person a sense of serenity. I froze when I drove from Glendale to S.F. in August one year. Brrr
pagesvoice.......I'm with you, all the way! I've lived in 3 other States, besides my Native New York.......New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania. I have visited and/or had extenive stays in several others.....Tennesee, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Georgia & Minnesota. I've never found any to compare to New York, in any way.
However, when people hear, "New York," they think of NY City. Western New York may as well be worlds away from there.
I happen to appreciate the 4 Seasons as well.....because they are so distinctive from each other. Our Autumn is breathtaking......and like no other.
The bottom line for me is, THIS is HOME and I truly feel a love and loyalty to it.
Good question!!
It is frustrating when we are automatically linked to NYC. New York State is 47,126.40 square miles compared to NYC which is only 302.64 square miles. While our winter months may be challenging, it is all just part of what makes us a hardy lot.
