Is the USA the most religious country in the world?

There are many variables that go into that designation, that it's hard to tell. Usually, the most vocally religious are the least enlightened.
America is the most loudly 'Christian' nation in the world, but, most of our Christians aren't worth a damn as Christians or as people---the self-righteous seldom are.
As an ex-believer, any amount of religion where I live is too much---at least the non-believing community isn't rooting for the apocalypse and telling me I'm going to hell unless I buy into their dogma.

Totally agree with you regarding this premise, Charles.  Many people who purport to be religious are not.   They condemn people who disagree with them and/or have a different lifestyle than theirs.   They are quite intolerant and bigoted !

I doubt that. It would depend on how you define religion. My wild guess is country with more population, could have more religions, if you define religion as anything people believe about "greater power".

The most religious nation in the world is the Philippines, where 83.6 percent said they believed in God and had no doubts about his existence. The study found 93.5 percent of all Filipinos say they “believe in God and always have.”

Maybe that is why the largest audience ever was when Pope John Paul II visited the Phillippines (it was in the millions) This might also explain why so many Phillipino-Americans are very friendly as well.

Not at all. We are not as religious as we used to be. However there are still plenty of churches in the southern states.

I think Saudi Arabia beats all other nations in religiosity.  They have a chronic oversupply of young men whose only training is in religious studies with no other useful skills to offer their fellow humans, and nearly all their laws are based on someone's interpretation of the Koran. It takes an awful amount of religious fervor to sustain a society where women are regarded as being not much above dogs.

Nope in percentage and population. As another person said, for percentage it is the Philippines, and India is for population. Hinduism is the major religion there though.

I have to say the Philippines. The statistics of religious percentages seems to bear that out.

But you also have to experience living here, too. Christmas songs start in early September! Major stores' PA systems offer daily prayer, where most shoppers will stop for a minute to bow their heads and murmur along with the prayer.

I'm not Catholic, but my Filipino wife is. I've learned a great deal about humility from her.

America has lost its way. Many of the so-called religious are filled with too much ego and greed. Many of them are arrogant, thinking that they know it all, but there is so much more to learn from Scripture. Those who live of ego are not religious. Their religiosity is a pretense.
