Three summers ago, my wife and I rented a villa in Haut De Cagnes, France on the Rivera near Nice. Prior to our one month stay at the villa, we took a river cruise from the English Channel to Paris (one week), then a second cruise from Paris to Avignon (another week).  From there we motored to Haut De Cagnes.  While based in Haut De Cagnes, we took our own little excursions in our rental auto to Monaco, Gourdon, Grasse, Antibes, Caanes, St. Tropez, Eze, Cap Ferrat, Imperia, San Remo, Genoa, Portofino, and the five villages of the Cinque Terres.  There are truly too many magnificent places on the French and Italian Riverias to mention, so I will just lump them all together -  So my answer is that the most exciting place I've ever visited was The Riviera from St. Tropez on the west to the Cinque Terre on the East, and not only would I like to return, I would like to live there!

It sounds idyllic. I spent most of my life in the UK but haven't visited the French Rivera, maybe one day!  Hope your dream comes true and thanks for sharing.

I can assume you're well travelled?  Sounds as though you've had some great adventures.  I love Europe too and miss the close proximity of all the countries.  Have fun  next year.

Bangkok, Thailand was the most exciting place that I have ever visited.  After visiting Bangkok for the first time in 1996, I was hooked on the country and people, and I finally retired in Thailand five years ago.

Wow, what a move.  I love Bangkok too.  I've only been once in 1999 but would love to return one day.

Believe it or not, Washington D.C.   Seeing everything I saw in books, on coins, on T.V. and in school, for real, was amazing. Everything seemed so big. And it was really neat to confirm in my mind that these things really existed. The amount of history in such a small area was overwhelming.

My husband would agree.  He loves, loves the US and American history.  He swears its more interesting than UK history.  It does sound a great place and I'm sure I will get to visit.  thanks for sharing
