Sometimes I love the snow, but mostly I love it when it's over.

Love it when it's over, but don't forget to love the uniqueness of each snowflake while it's here.

An open fire....don't have a fireplace at my house though so I don't get to experience one often! A warm bed is nearly as good.

    Snow :-)
Snow is so magical and when it keeps falling down, suddenly everything goes white and outside seem more relax and peaceful.
During snowy days all the sounds around seem to be lower and all the people calmer.

I live in the Northeastern part of the United States and grew up in the Snowbelt of Central New York. I'm very familiar with Winter and snow storms.

Those who loathe the long months of winter either move or become Snowbirds, living in Florida until Spring arrives. Then there are a group of people who just grumble and complain during our long winter months. Finally, we have a group of folks that I'm a member of. We are in acceptance of our surroundings. We carefully weatherproof our homes for the cold weather, shut off our outdoor water spigots, wrap our hot water heaters in insulation and have our furnaces checked for efficiency and then we wait for the beautiful, crisp, blinding white fluff to fall from the sky.

I love it when a fresh snow has blanketed the lawns, fields, trees and fields. The scenery is bleached white with wonder. Watching the deer hoof it through the snow, making their way to my bird feeders is spellbinding.

Winter is a time to catch up on reading, writing and planning my vegetable and flower gardens for Spring. In other words, I love Winter and the time it affords me to reflect, take pictures and anticipate the arrival of warmer weather.

Knowing that Spring always comes at the end of Winter and that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Snowflakes! Snowflakes that pile up and make a play center out of a neighborhood which causes us to wear ourselves out in the cold and then drives us in by the fire for wassail and blankets.  Snowflakes that float in the air and make the world a quiet place--except for children's laughter and grownups roaring with delight, and except for the crackling of a fire.  Snowflakes on garlands of evergreenery, snowflakes falling around a pair of cardinals, snowflakes on noses, snowflakes on eyelashes, snowflakes in the night sky twinkling like stars or like diamond glints on ocean ripples.  Snowflakes compacted into snowballs destined for shrieks and knit caps and mittened hands and crooked smiles and snowmen's tummies.  Snowflakes, snowflakes, snowflakes!

Admittedly, this is probably because I am a Southerner, but aren't snowflakes wonderful?!

Generally I am not a big fan of winter but let me share one of my favorite winter memories.  I used to work at a little bookstore and my daughter worked there also.  We would come home from work on a Friday or Saturday evening (when she was in high school) and my husband would have a fire going in the fireplace, and the snow was falling. It was so warm and cozy and she and I had several TV shows that we enjoyed at the time so those were the nicest evenings.

So that is my favorite thing about winter, being safe inside by the fire while the weather rages outside.  But the love of that wears of quickly in our dark and gray climate so I am ready for Spring about January!  But it does arrive until about May.

Share the love beside the fire and feel the warmth of the ones you admire!

Snow days! I love being able to go outside and it feels so magical with all the snow in the air and the soft powder below. Being able to make snowmen, go sledding, make forts... Oh, I just love it!

The holidays and if I am on holidays I like snow. Otherwise it complicates my life because my school is far from my house. In the winter people are more quiet and the soul seems to be having a rest. Therefore I feel more at peace in Winter.

I do not have to worry as much if my computer is in a cool enough room in winter. But during the summer I have to be more careful in case the room I am in gets to warm/hot.

That it helps me really appreciate spring. When I see those first buds on the tree and I hear the birds chirping I know the warmth of spring has arrived.

I love being able to be lazy in the house with warm clothes and blankets, movies, hot chocolate, things of that sort. I love getting snow days from school, or nowadays work. I have gone snowmobiling before and that was a lot of fun.

I guess that's all more than one thing, so I guess my one thing would be being lazy in the house smile

The icy coolness of winter.  Winter is quiet and peaceful.  It is also starkly majestic.  It is the season of quiet reflection and introspection.  It is also the time for family gatherings and get-togethers. It is also time for thinking and being grateful to have survived the present year and for anticipation of what needs to be accomplished for the following year.

It is also the time to be cozy in one's abode, watching old movies and sipping hot chocolate.  It is time to celebrate the winter's solstice and holidays such as Christmas and The New Year.  It is a time for walks in the snow and for window shopping during the holiday season.

It is a time to appreciate the beauty of New York City, seeing the bare trees and stark grounds.  It is ice skating in Central Park and Rockefeller Center.  It is watching the Christmas Show at Radio City Music Hall.  It is dining at Tavern on the Green on a wintery Friday evening.  It is walking down Fifth Avenue, looking at the fashionably dressed people in their latest attire.

If winter was a color, it would be stark white during the day and a luxuriant black during the night.  Winter is a season of extremes.  Its colors are clear and crisp.  It is a season of mystery and seduction.  It has a beauty that is unsurpassed and utterly surreal.
