   How can any American support the Republican Party???
   
   They are out of touch with reality and really don't care about the middle class and poor. We can only hope that the Hispanic people will vote for the Democrats and keep a Republican President out of office any time in the near future. Have you ever really studied the Republican party. They are out of touch with reality and really don't care what happens to the poor and middle class Americans. Everyone can't be rich. I truly hope we don't have a Republican president elected any time in the near future. Unless they wake up to the needs of the poor and middle class they may be finished.

   I think you might be overgeneralizing here, but the statements are not wholly incorrect. Remember that this is the party of Lincoln.
   
   However, there does seem to be a bit of schizophrenia in the platform in that we're all supposed to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps financially but give the government the power to make social decisions we can make for ourselves (e.g. who to marry, what we take into our bodies, etc.).
   
   But the Republicans are survivors. They'll find their way back. If the Democrats choose Hillary in 2016, the Republicans will win - regardless of who they choose.

   Good question.  And you are absolutely correct in your statements.  Those who blindly follow the GOP have no idea what that party has turned into.  It used to be for the working people, now it is totally for corporate america.
   They are really out of touch with the rest of the world, and like little blind mice they follow the money people blindly. 
   For those who dislike Pres Obama, they cannot imagine just how worse off we would have been with the alternative.  We must keep these fanatics out of the white house as long as they keep attacking unions, police, firemen, teachers, workers, women's rights, abortion/contraceptive rights, the gay community, seniors, the poor, and the middle class.

   British Society is becoming tough under David Cameron. The Conservative party of the United Kingdom also rules on the interests of the rich. We need politics to care about all not just about the wealthy. The right to prosperity and peace for all. The republicans must define themselves as a party for all not just wealthy and powerfull Americans.

   I think the current state of the Republican Party might be an opening needed for other parties and independents to get a voice. I have family and friends on both sides but I think some are finding it hard to relate to the current Party and some have already switched or become independents.  The rest have decided not to talk about it at least with me.

   Yes I have "really studied" the Republican Party and am a card-carrying member.  I guess you believe that caring "what happens to the poor and middle class Americans" means supporting policies bordering on socialism, a huge, bloated government bureaucracy, confiscatory taxation, and more and more government interference in our daily lives. The Democratic Party is the party that stifles First Amendment rights and is working on undermining our 2nd Amendment rights as I write this.  The party of virtual infanticide, open borders, and weak foreign policy.   We now have to endure almost four more years of the worst president in American history, bar none.  My question is how can anyone vote for the Democrats?

      that's funny. only about 20 miles.The GOP/tea party certainly does not represent the people any more, unless U R including corporations in "the people" as the supreme court chose 2 do. Their current views R  truly radical (abortions/voting rights..)

      If that were the extent of it, no. R U watching N.Carolina? Texas? they R far beyond the pale that U suggest. 1500 bills banning abortion & contraceptives in the House of Reps in Washington? New laws banning gays in red states-not only marriages+

   Good thing you're not a history teacher. At any rate, you wouldn't qualify. Republicans have supported civil rights more than Democrats. Most Americans are unaware that Eisenhower and Richard Nixon were strong supporters of civil rights, especially for the poor and middle class, and furthermore, they passed a great deal of legislation despite democratic opposition - more so than Kennedy or LBJ. And.. they were not the only Republicans to do so.
   Get your facts straight. It's all there, written in history. By the way, if you object to rich people so much, who do you think attended $30,000 a plate fundraisers for Obama?

      The Republican Party electing presidents on a regular basis is over. The Republican Party has changed much since Eisenhower or Nixon. The Civil Rights act was passed under LBJ. The Kennedy's fought hard for Civil Rights.  Read your history.

   you obviously believe that you can get to the top of the mountain to view the wonderful scene by blasting away at the mountain until it is gone.
   the current Administration is destroying the economic model that has built this wonderful country.  By blasting away at it from your standpoint, you believe it should get better.  but, under the current Presidential leadership it has just gotten much worse.  Their magic math does not represent the reality of the situation.  You cannot run a nation by being a community organizer.  More money does not make things better when it is being handled by an incompetent leader.  The nation has experienced community control growth of kids for over 50 years and now we have more drug use, killings, welfare drudge, and failure than any other time.  Your concept of lazy freedom is particulary frightful since this has been the reason the country is failing.  I believe if he had all the money in the world, the current President would still fail in providing for the citizens of the nation because he fails to recognize the economic model that provides true achievement.  You can give someone money everyday so they can buy fish, or you can give them lessons in fishing so they can eat even when you have no money to provide them.  Forrest Gump said it best, "stupid is as stupid does."

    Sadly, a large percentage of the Republican party has become nothing more the DemocratLite. The true Constitutional Conservative is hard-pressed to believe in them as a Party. There are some individuals that still believe in "We the People" and not "We the government". The battle between the two Parties over who can best micro-manage our lives and circumvent the Constitution the most creatively is hurting the country. We need a smaller, Constitutional federal government that is restrained by the enumerated powers listed in the Constitution and by the 10th Amendment.
    It is not "for the people" to tell them that they can not succeed without the government. Freedom and Liberty are what make us great. Our rights are not granted by the government, but are supposed to be protected by it.
    What government program, especially at the federal level, has ever help people to become self reliant and personally responsible? We have the right to Life, Liberty and the PURSUIT of Happiness...not the guarantee of outcome.
    Both Parties, as a whole, are not looking out for "We the People", but instead are focused on control of "We the People".
    The poor have grown in number under the government run "war on poverty". It isn't more government that we need, but the ability to grow businesses and community outreach without so many taxes and regulations on businesses, private non-profits and the people themselves.

       Ur views R 2 narrow. Corps need better regulating, not less. Gov. agencies need improving-not eliminating. Waste needs 2 B addressed. Tax $$ need 2 B spend here not abroad. Both parties need 2 come into the present, not live in the past. + more.

    Generalizations such as this do little to foster a proper political dialogue.  Brandishing popular paradigms, such as "they are out of touch with reality" or painting Republicans as the party of the rich, without presenting a practical postulation is at best vacuous; and at worst, slanderous.
    
    This is not to say that the Republican party of today does not merit criticism.  Speaking frankly, the Republican party is suffering from a lack of resolve.  They spend too much time trying to be liked by individuals such as the person that authored this question.  The Republican establishment has abandoned the resoluteness of cause for  the hollowness of consensus.
    
    The core values of the Republican party need to be redirected toward conservatism.  This, of course, will require a strong presence of mind along with conviction.  Until then, the benefits of a conservative agenda will go unrealized and questions and criticisms, with and without basis, will continue.
