   I grew up with a single mother and she told me and my brothers "If (someone) hits you, hit them back!"  No gender exceptions.
   Personally I am against hitting for (both) sexes but if a woman hit me I'd hit her back and dump her. Gender is no excuse for initiating violence. If I had a daughter I would strongly advise her not to go around hitting or slapping men unless she wants to get hit back. Not every man is going to sit and take that crap or simply walk away. Only an idiot picks a fight with someone bigger and stronger than them. I for one would never slap a grizzly bear! It's not smart!
   As a matter of fact if someone feels the need to haul off and hit someone they should be ending that relationship. Awhile back I wrote a hub on this topic exploring how society tends to give women a "pass" for initiating violent acts against men.    Would you hit her with the full force of a man or just a good enough blow to shut her down? I don't condone hitting either but I do believe that if she hits first to expect an automatic reflex of some sort. However, I would also like for him to be better than to actually hit her more like grab and shake, maybe a good slap or just pin her down and quickly explain repercussions if she continues. You know, give a warning. Yet, I know that in real time, human reflexes don't always allow for that moment to consider options. I agree with you that women are given a pass but I would also want my boys to be conscious of that fact should the situation arise.

      I think it's impossible to know how hard I would respond. There are many possible variables. Some women have been known to pick up items to hit men which is basically an assault with a deadly weapon. I'm not into drama. Too much arguing and I'm done

      If shes only throwing things there's no physical contact between you and her, granted items may be flying past you but her hands have not met your body.

      I'm talking about swinging items: a shovel, a full bottle of wine, or in the old days a skillet or rolling pin. Clearly the intent is to use those objects as weapons. If a knife or bullet flies by you that's a serious attack without "hands on" too.

      Agreed but, it happens and, sometimes women do so intentionally to antagonize a man. But when some people are struck, male or female, the reflex is the same as the doctor tapping your knee and your leg kicks up.
