What characteristics distinguishes the highly successful person from the person who is merely
making a living and/or getting by?
I think highly successful people are those who have found their real passion in life and it drives them to the top. A lot of people who just make a living and get by do ok, but they aren't really doing something that moves them at their very core you know? Your most successful people tend to go against the grain - they are visionaries and want to do something different, unique, special - they are fired up in their soul about what they want and that energy motivates and carries them through the ups and downs.
Others, may struggle because they are doing what they think they 'have" to do or they feel limited by circumstances or other obligations that kind of get in the way of striving for personal success. I fall into this latter category I think. I know what I love, I know where my passions lie - but with two kids, a mortgage, husband, school etc. there are not enough hours in the day for me to focus on those goals as much as I'd like right now. I make a decent living though and I am happy with my life as it is - I figure all things in due time . Helping my kids get established is my priority now - then I'll become a legendary author or artist or something someday lol .
I totally agree with you. I feel the same way!
I am fan of Tony Robbins and maybe the most critical characteristic is taking action. This is the moment when most people fail, they are to afraid of failure and therefore they are not willing to risk. When I think about it how can you be afraid of something that you will never experience if you don't do something?
Like Napoleon Hill said it, there is no failures, only learned lessons.
So to me is action. The moment you get out of your comfort zone and go towards your goals no matter what. I noticed most people start to explain why they CANNOT do it and very few actually ask themselves how to do it.
Great and insightful answer to the question at hand!
I've been both: a highly successful person and a person just struggling to get by.
When I was a highly successful person, I wore business suits from Talbots or Ann Taylor. I wore high heels. I made a lot of money and was planning on buying a brand new car in cash. I also worked 60 plus hours a week.
Now I'm a mom. I have 2 children. I give them my all every day, without the extra money that I once had. All they have is me. I'm struggling to get by. But there is never a day we go without what we truly need.
Many people will say to me they had no idea how hard we have it. I'd say that's successful. It was easy to recognize me when I was successful by the way I dressed and the car I drove. Now that all of my clothing has holes in it, I wear old shoes to afford my children new ones, not a day goes by that I don't blend in with everyone else.
The difference is happiness. All I have to give is love. I get way more enjoyment out of giving then when my success was defined by money.
