   How long does a pumpkin generally last?
   
   The pumpkin pictured here was a Halloween Pumpkin. Then it was a Thanksgiving day pumpkin. Then it became a Christmas pumpkin, and last it was a New Year's Day pumpkin. It's still as fresh as the day we bought it, so it appears it will soon be a Valentines day pumpkin, and then possibly even an Easter pumpkin. Honestly I'm not sure if it will ever end, and possibly after being a Summertime pumpkin, it may just make it back to being a two time Halloween pumpkin. I wonder what the world record might be for the longest lasting pumpkin, because this pumpkin may be the winner!

   Have you looked at the inside? I thought when they were usually cut for Halloween thaey went rotten in a couple of days to a week.

      I'm sorry The Examiner-1, I forgot to include in my question that this particular pumpkin is an uncarved pumpkin, and is still as solid as the day it was purchased. This photo was just taken as I asked this question.

   A gourd can last for a year or more. Of course nutrients leave it and the insides seem to do a fermentation. But in the olden days we seem to be able to keep them from a good harvest to bad. No direct sunlight please and keep it as cool as allowed. The inner seeds will start sprouting and about 9 months and so it is cool to leave it in the dirt if you want another crop.
   Think of the pumpkin as a growth deal. they are like bug Mammas hatching seeds.

   The length a pumpkin takes to deteriorate depends on the environmental conditions and its age when picked.  But I do know that what is going on inside is the aging process.  I had a pumpkin I let sit for 4 months, when I cut it open the inside had molded and rotted. But the outside looked perfect.

   I now would like to present to all of you good people an update on just how long a pumpkin can last. Now we didn't go and perform any long lasting pumpkin treatments on this pumpkin. A matter of fact we just let it do it's thing and had nature take it's course. This particular pumpkin, which was purchased prior to Halloween in October of 2013 lasted all of the way until May 11th 2014, which is Mother's Day. It was a Thanksgiving Day pumpkin, Christmas pumpkin, New Years Day pumpkin, Valentine's Day pumpkin, Easter Pumpkin, a couple of people's birthday pumpkins, and now finally a Mother's Day pumpkin. I don't think I missed any holidays, and I know it won't make it to Memorial day. The pumpkin that is pictured here was taken on Mother's Day, and we are proud that it lasted well over half a year, and survived past the expiration of so very many of it's pumpkin cousins and counterparts. Thank you for waiting so long for the official results for this question, and Ericdierker gets the best answer with the closest answer.
