Can a straight guy marry a straight guy?
Why not? If same sex marriage is legal, nowhere does it say that you have to prove that you are gay. How would you? (don't answer that!) The marriage would not have to be intimate. We wouldn't even sleep together. It could be open so we could still see women outside of the marriage. Yet, we could take advantage of the health benefits of one or the other's. We could even take advantage of tax credits for filing joint. I'd never do this, but did this scenario cross anyone's mind?
I certainly don't see it beyond the realm of possibility. Marriages of convenience are nothing new -unfortunately!
I imagine it's possible, but as I tend to distance myself from current world affairs I don't know how the laws of marriage have changed. While I wouldn't want to marry my friend who is of the persuasion you mention, I still think of him as more than a friend, and he does too. He doesn't have any thoughts on gay marriage nor is he interested in long lasting relationships, but I don't think he'd mind having a partnership like something like this. If there was some kind of marriage of friends rather than of lovers, that'd be pretty cool, and if such a thing exists I'd like to know!
John- I think it does. If you look at states that recognize same sex marriage, I don't think being gay is a requirement. I brought this up because it may help gay couples understand why some people disapprove while not hating gay people. SeeBethPerry
It's possible but it makes very little sense. If you're going to get married you might as well choose someone you want to have sex with. Odds are you will eventually leave your spouse for someone else if you aren't sexually attracted to them or not emotionally invested in the relationship. It would be tough for these men to find "understanding women" to date once they knew.
Most people who get married for "perceived" benefits whether it's because their perspective spouse is rich or they want to become a citizen, rarely are they happy in the end and divorce can be a very expensive undertaking.
Last but not least very few straight men would want to go on public records married to a man and have the world believe they are gay!
Each and every time you introduce your husband to someone you'd have to explain your motivation for getting married. Even then most people would suspect you're not being honest with (yourself). LOL!
You're right except that it seems that more and more, people are willing to sacrifice reputation for wealth. Actually, the scenario of my question seems like it would be pretty simple to hide. To make things clear, I'm not proposing to anyone here.
It's all hypothetical. LOL!
Two straight guys getting married would be a sort of a "closet reversal". Some gay men have been known for marrying women for societal benefits and to advance their careers. They want people to believe they're straight.
Now that I think of it, there was a comedy movie on this very thing. I can't remember the name but it had Adam Sandler and Kevin James in it. Ans Yes, it's all hypothetical. (in a very deep voice.)
Very true. George Bernard Shaw married a lesbian with no desire of consummating the union. Not surprising; she was wealthy & his opinion of real marriage was cynical at best - another paradox in itself as he abused its significance.
People already abuse heterosexual marriage for green cards and health insurance, so it stands to reason it would happen for homosexual marriage as well. Whatever agency regulates the authenticity of current marriages would, hopefully, do the same for the new ones. There was actually an Adam Sandler movie that addressed this topic, even though it was a comedy. I believe it was called "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry".

There is a lot of talk about allowing gay couples to get married, and, of course we all know the whole because god created man and woman BS. But, here is a what if question for you.Let's say that the tables were turned, and there was a law that was passed that banned all marriages all together....
