Because normally they already have someone else. This being the reason they break up with their partners. If one truly loves another they should not be looking for others in the first place. This is the most selfish thing anyone can do in a relationship. And the most hurtful.
JThom, WHO always has someone else? I think men are more likely than women to "have someone else." The ugliest man can get SOME woman to see something worthy in him. LOL...
Nadia, If he's truly (ugly) then most likely the "worthy" thing she sees in him is his money! LOL!
JThompson and Dashing-- Yes, women do look for a working man, because working is part of character, not to mention the economic practicality of it. Many women still always think about whether a man is a good partner, aside from sexually.
It always comes down to the individual and who initiated the breakup.
Generally speaking the person ending a relationship or filing for divorce has had more time to mentally plan and prepare for life afterwards. Sometimes the initiator of the breakup already is seeing another person or has someone waiting in the wings.
A few years ago AARP conducted a survey which revealed that in the U.S. (women) initiated the filing of divorces 66% or 2/3rds of the time! This suggests they have a "head start" when it comes to moving on.
However on the other hand Vicki Larson a writer for the Huffington Post wrote an article titled: "Why Divorced Men Are Quick To Marry Again". In her article it states that divorced men tend marry sooner and more often than divorced women! Now that's really moving on!
It is surmised that men see more benefits in marriage and women enjoy their freedom and independence after divorce.
Even men who were "burned" by divorce oftentimes will remarry sooner! Maybe they're die hard "romantics"; Otherwise, she says, how can you explain why a man who has been badly burned in a divorce -- think Paul McCartney, who married wife No. 3 (Nancy Shevell) after his second wife (of 6 years) took him for estimated at $48.6 million, Michael Jordan estimated at $168 million, Garth Brooks estimated at $125 million, Steven Spielberg estimated at $100 million, and Dmitry Rybolovlev's divorce from Elena Rybolovleva; estimated at $4.5 billion!
Most of these men would have no problem finding women to date as they remain single and yet they (choose) to get married again.
Dashing, many women STILL don't hit on men in the exact way that men do to women because we KNOW that even today, quite a number of men don't like aggression in women, or seeming too available, willing, or easy. Many men prefer to be the pursuer.
In this day and age of sexual harassment/stalking charges most men would welcome it if a woman showed them signs of interest! Unfortunately flirting has become a lost art. There are ways to be subtle.
Some guys fantasize about women pursing them!
LOL back at JThom. Looks matter in this superficial world in which we live, and so does money, sadly.
It depends on her feels about her Ex. If she grew no feels towards the mate then she may move on fast. If she started to love or fall in love with the mate then it may take her months. The funny thing about women is everyday a woman walks out the door she is hit on by at least one man its her choice to say no or not. If she is newly single she may want to go out and meet new people. The reason why I think is the availability. Unlike men, its rare for a woman to be rejected. So, while a man will have to approach a new mate (mostly likely) and female will have them delivered to her front door.
"everyday a woman walks out the door she is hit on by at least one man its her (choice) to say no or not." - Very true!
Most women have more "options" to move on/hookup with someone new then men have. Only men who are famous/rich have it similar.
Which is probably the reason they decide to stay single after a failed marriage. With so many options and a failed marriage on her belt why bother?
SilentMag-- not EVERY woman is that attractive! Not every woman is "hit on" every time she "steps out the door." Sounds too general. I know it's hard not to; It's best to say "many," some," never "all" or "most," without the facts..
Nadia, You're right: Not (every) woman gets hit on but compared to how many men get hit on whether they are attractive or not one must admit odds are in most women's favor. One of the reasons some guys go to strip clubs is to enjoy being pursued.
Nadia- Okay, okay a stretch of the truth a little bit. However, everyone is sexy to someone. All you have to do is walk outside.
Silent, of course you can say what you wish! I exaggerate, too, sometimes. But using your standard of everyone being sexy to someone, that means such people aren't that attractive to too many often. LOL..They won't get hit on "every day."
Today, because women are deemed to be more like men than ever and tell themselves that they are (and that they should be allowed to act as men have in the past), I believe that they do on the outside; inwardly, however, I believe that--at least speaking for myself--women are still more emotional about breakups and in their hearts, DON'T move on faster; many only appear to. I believe that men are wired to be able to move on faster, as men have always been better at leaving women and children behind, primed to repeat the cycle of loving and leaving. Men who have a lot going for them are especially capable of moving on faster, particularly since there are so many women, so "many fish in the sea" for them. For us, what's left are the dregs, including men who--though they may have much going for them, aren't keepers.
At SilentMagenta - WOMEN have more options? Since when? I think MEN have ALWAYS had more options. And to be clear, I THINK we're talking about heterosexual men and women.
Nadia Ribadu, I believe what she means is (women) get hit on by men everyday. Very few men have women throwing themselves at them! A woman can dress up & go out to a club and several guys will approach her! A man on the other hand isn't so lucky
Also, consider that there are still UNSPOKEN social norms. Men don't get approached, at least by and large, by women, because it's been the norm for eons that males (even in the animal kingdom) pursue; females attract. That hasn't changed much.
A lot of women don't want it change! In fact it upsets them when they see other women who do go after men they want. Most men would enjoy having an attractive lady start up a conversation with them. Saying hello/complimenting him is a good start.
My apologies. The questions was asked. So I felt like giving my opinion.
P.s. You don't walk around with heterosexual on your forehead. So sometimes a woman will hit on another women. You may not be interested. however, you are still being hit on.
Dashing, but then, he may have a hot body or may just be a nice guy. So much more is required of men, whereas a woman can put on makeup and have a regular job, yet be stupid and submissive, which a lot of men still like; less these days, though.

Why do men move on so quickly after a relationship? After a breakup you might see your ex out with another woman or you may hear it through the grapevine he is dating someone else. How can this be when a week ago he just professed his love to you?
