What steps can we take to cultivate a generous spirit and show care and concern for others each day?

Jesus set an example of generosity for us as Christians. How do we reflect this in our daily lives?

I think it's as simple as just concentrating on being in the moment. Present. With a deep appreciation of just getting to experience all the things in life. The good and the bad. That we actually get to know what it's like. If you can be in that place it will permeate everything you say and do and will rub off on those around you.

Y:  I wish I could get "everyone" to understand - "We need the help of the Holy Spirit, especially in our everyday lives!"

Matthew 6:33 says, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and ALL these things shall be added unto you."  If filled with the Holy Spirit, all the fruit of the Spirit will be added to you as well.

Christian character is produced by the Holy Spirit, not by "self effort" as stated in Galatians 5:22-26  which says, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, (v23) Meekness, self-control; against such there is no law."  Verse 25 goes on to say, "If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit."  Therefore, these are just "some" of the benefits received after having received the gift of the Holy Spirit!

Everyone seems to think this is so ridiculous, so weird, so spooky, so unnatural, but it is what Scripture says.  Romans 8:8 says, "So, then, they that are in the flesh cannot please God."  (Read all of Romans 8.)  Since we are "in the flesh," most believe this is impossible!  But if written in the Word of God - Possible!  (Matthew 19:26; Mark 10:27; Luke 18:27.)

We are God's children and as such, He would not ask us to do anything that is not "humanly" possible!  Would you punish your child if you asked him to pick up a car alone knowing it's "physically" impossible?  So, it is with God!  He would not ask something of us that is impossible "in the flesh" but can be accomplished "in the Spirit!"

Therefore, seek the Holy Spirit and "ALL these things will be added unto you!"

    Hope this helps,
    Blessings

Beautifully expressed, Norine. I say the same thing in an entirely different way. Nothing can be accomplished without the Spirit, and it is Grace that transforms our nature. Much Love.

Thanks Man!  Everyone thinks this is soo unnatural: to Walk in the Spirit "daily," but this is commanded by God under the New Coventant (w/Benefits)! Walking w/Jesus is a Spiritual (Supernatural) journey that "most" don't understand! Much Love 2 u!

I would consider performing a small act of kindness every day as a way to show care. I think people become consumed by the idea of helping everyone but you can actually touch somebody and make them happy just be smiling at them or holding a door open where others wouldn't.

A supremely beautiful question and loving thought, I must say. Yet it is also a spiritual question, and requires a spiritual answer as such. What is Spirituality?

"The essence of Religion is to fear God and obey God, The quintessence of Spirituality is to know God and become another God." - Sri Chinmoy. (A 20th and 21st Century Visionary and Seer)

Put in an easier way, perhaps, Spirituality is the quest for our true nature, which is Eternal Bliss. Indeed it is in the quest for our Spirituality, that we will cultivate a generous spirit, and show empathy to others. I cannot offer you, what I do not feel within, and vice versa.

Put in a different way, character is the sum total of our personality, and personality, is the sum total of who we are. No one can jump faster than Grace. So how do we cultivate a generous spirit?

Love, yes, but of ourselves we cannot do anything. All actions rely on inner motive, which basically feeds of our receptivity to a Higher Light or power. The greater the receptivity, the greater the goodness, as we are tapping into a Higher Source. We do this through prayer, both verbal and silent, with a recognition that we are merely instruments in the hand of Something Higher, and a reliance on the Divine Will.

Add to this, service to mankind, and this will widen the Heart. Here it is worthwhile mentioning that all we do, at least in the initial stages, is for ourselves. Only God can help. Yet as we develop, we will inevitably take others with us, as they will see or feel our goodness, and will be inspired to follow suit.

History is full of beacons whom we try to emulate, whether they be a Jesus or Krishna or Mandela, depends on our own nature or character, or level of inner growth. So how do we cultivate kindness and empathy?

    1. Faith in Something Higher, and a reliance on Divine Grace.

    2. Being receptive to this Grace. Crucially important.

    3. Service to others. This expands the Heart, causes inner growth initially and then spreads. The very nature of kindness is to spread.
    4. Meditation. believe that life, like a river, flows from a Source. All things rely on a Source or Supply.

As our Hearts expand and we are filled with Light, so too we will inevitably spread this Light to others. It is a very slow process. Some great Teachers came a long time ago, and we are still struggling. Finally, never forget that the Supreme Being is always in charge, and will act according to Its plans and Consciousness. All else follows. Much peace.

    Set up planned giving.

Take your kids to the homeless shelter, food bank, and see those who are truly needy.

Let us show some respect, love and care for the others. In that little thing we can do good things with the people surrounds us. In our community, we go house to house and put the Saint images, and share some words of God, we make reflection to that bible verse so we can inspire people that who don't know who is God.

What "Saint images?"  Do you know GOD SAID "I will not share MY GLORY with another" (Is 42:8)?
If u are of the "Catholic Faith," you need to STUDY Scripture for their's is a FALSE DOCTRINE!
