Good question. What diversion? Diversion from workload? From tension and worries? Diversion from daily routine? Or from concentration?
      Is it internet for Diversion?

The first answer that comes to mind is research, especially since my kids need help with homework questions I can't always answer. I also use it to communicate with family and friends since none of them live in the same city. It's an easy way to share things you can't see via the phone. And I use it for freelancing. Then, of course, sometimes it is just a diversion or entertainment.

Good answers! I am in a rural area where our IP  has left hundreds without access. City folks think we are being silly by complaining.
I have a cellular connection on iPad..... but it is expensive by the minute!

Y'all aren't crazy at all. The kids even have assignments now days requiring use of the internet. It's becoming somewhat of a must even if it isn't used often.

Business! I have no physical location for my company. Everything I do is entirely digital, and lives online.

If I have a question about anything, I do an internet search. I can find how to complete a household repair. I can find a recipe that includes ingredients I have on hand.

I can watch TV, or get reviews on a product I want to buy. I can find new music to listen to, or find videos of old music I love.

I can get in touch with old friends, and keep in touch with new friends. I can shop for anything my heart desires and have it delivered to my door.

I can post my opinions, and read the opinions of others. I can check the news and weather and traffic for any location on the planet. I can pay my bills and order or stop services.

    What was the question again?

Rochelle,  This is quite a good question!  For certain, the internet ceased to be a simple diversion for me long ago and has become a necessity and source for much of my daily life activities.
Yes, of course I find entertainment galore online, movies, YouTube, Human Interest stories and our own Hubpages.  I also do a whole lot of research and beneficial learning on a daily basis.
I think I feel like the vast majority when I say that at this point, it's difficult to think that for many more years of our lives past, we managed to survive "unplugged."  This thought leads me to realize that the generations behind us, born into the world of technology has never known being without.  (a profound concept to grasp)
I pay most of my bills online and correspond with businesses as well as acquaintances, electronically.  The sheer convenience and speed is an amazing feat I continue to marvel at.  I don't mind admitting I'm often like a child, experiencing wonders that are "virtually" magic to me.
I have made it a point to back away from the desk and join the real world, so I never become an isolated robot.  I like to keep the personal, face to face interaction and human touch, a vital part of my life.
I have a feeling this Q&A will be quite popular and you'll yield a boatload of feedback!!......Good luck, Rochelle.  Paula

One is research from products to writing projects, yet research can be a diversion, so they go hand-in-hand. Another is social life. I like reading forums and the Q&A here. I contribute too from time to time. Almost all my personal business life transactions are online. Over half of my purchases are through the internet. Two things I use constantly are the dictionary and thesaurus. I use an editing service and a readibility site too. Plus, I like reading for pleasure too.

I hardly ever use it for diversion or entertainment - maybe 5%. Mostly I use it to research articles I write, update myself on the news (mainly political), to upload data for a subcontract, some shopping, and to download music videos for concerts my community choir is preparing for. I also use it to reassure or deepen myself spiritually.

Mainly for email, research, as one way of keeping up with current events and looking up movie times.
By the time a newspaper arrives its "yesterday's news".
In addition I have used the Internet for making online purchases/shopping, making hotel reservations, rental car reservations, using "bill pay" through my bank, booking airline travel, purchasing tickets for shows, looking up company phone numbers & addresses using Google...etc
I've also posted articles, used it for job searches, and even successfully used Online Dating.

I write my cookbook. Slide presentations help in groups I belong to that helps others. Research and message people who don't like to talk on the phone and I don't get to see very often. Share my home Reno's and do things on Pinterest.

Well everything can be a source of diversion, it all depends on us. I think the easy access to a broad network of information internet has made possible for us all is one of the great blessings of this technology. But we just don't know how to deal with it sometime and feel our time is wasted.
