Conservatives & Moderates, do you strongly contend that Liberals in America want America to be

a BIG, WELFARE state?   Why do Liberals contend that people should pay TAXES to support useless services & programs instead of logically & maturely realize that people should be able to care for & support themselves?  What is WRONG w/Liberals?  Have Liberals LOST THEIR MINDS?

If you want to see where the US is heading under the left, you don't have to look any further than California.

California treats ILLEGAL Aliens like de facto American citizens. Wait, I am wrong, they treat these Illegals better than American Citizens. It is like a lottery win for a lot of people in CA, illegals and legals. And it has been getting worse decade by decade.

Since 1980 the population in CA has doubled, but CA has not doubled the resources necessary to keep up with the population.

Taxes keep going up, and the latest one is increase in Gas tax, and increase in Car registration. The alleged reason, to keep up the road infrastructure. If we look at what they have been doing with this revenue over the decades, we find that a lot of it gets diverted to their pet projects. Even the new gas and registration tax that has been implemented yet, already is being diverted on paper.

Sanctuary cities, especially in CA. An illegal alien that has been convicted and served a term in prison for a felony is now being protected by the CA gov. Who is paying for all of this, as well as free education, free medical, and welfare. Yes, I know they technically don't get welfare, but they do.
We give them driver's licenses. What other country does that?

California, and if the left has their way will infest itself across the country that American Citizens are too be the new second class citizen, while the new citizen are the immigrants.

The left calls this diversity and the American Way, but that is not true. Ellis Island was the holding place for immigrants coming into the country. And it was important for them to accept America as their country, and to be citizens of it. To assimilate in it and protect it.

The left doesn't care about that as the immigrants and Illegals coming into America don't want to assimilate as Americans. They want America to be their old country and they hold that country above the US. They don't want to follow our laws, our constitution, or our way of life. They want us to follow them.

That is where the left is taking the country. CA first and the rest will follow....

This answer sort of veers off the question, but my response is that in California, a huge chunk of the economy is based on having low paid immigrant labor. Take away sanctuary protections, and start deporting, and California collapses.

It is my understanding the reason why the US (not just lefties) has never taken a hard hand against illegals is bcuz we profit from them - and as you know, money is everything. Its like our own silent slave trade except people come willingly...

It would be a good thing if CA collapsed for your reason Lisa.
      Misfit.

profit? from this cheap labor when in return we give them free education, free medical, and welfare. Also, the prisons and jails in the US are filled with illegal immigrants!

Sadly, CA cannot secede, or be thrown out of the Union.  I wish it could, they have too much impact on where our national tax revenue goes (for the worse)  and too much impact on our elections.  Lovely state, horrible government and politics.

Take a look at the nations that don't provide these services.  Better still, visit some of them.  Most social services are not "useless services and programs."  You'd find that out if you suddenly became a paraplegic and hadn't covered yourself with an insurance company.

Most people who are against social programs have never needed one. May their privilege continue, because not everyone who needs help has access to a program that will help them. They tend to be underfunded, and spread thin.

Oh yeah, "useless" services and programs have made Canada practically unlivable! It's just terrible. Middle class families get more money to raise their kids, everyone has access to live saving health care... ugh, the horror.

And don't even get me started on those Scandinavian countries or Australia! Such dumps. Definitely no one wants to be there and I hear all the citizens are MISERABLE!

There is balance in those nations.  They don't have 1/3rd of the population supporting 2/3rds (where America is headed at this pace).  They have 3/4s the population supporting 1/4, at worst.  It only works when the numbers support it.

As a lifelong uber-lefty commie liberal, no, we don't want America to be a welfare state. We want America to return to being the land of opportunities for everyone willing to work hard.

That means giving some help to people, when they need it, through those "useless programs". I've worked for several of those over the course of my career, in poor neighborhoods, where kids spoke mostly Spanish at home. Going into the community, and providing a free lunch for kids, in exchange for their participation in educational programs after school and over the summer, ensures that those kids don't fall behind their English-speaking peers. It means they don't fail in school, and don't drop out, and become the first in their family to graduate from public high school (another one of those "usless programs"). It means they can apply for "useless" government programs to help them offset the costs of trade schools and colleges, so they can go out into the world, and work in professions, instead of busing tables, or washing dishes, or cleaning houses, like the kids who didn't participate in the outreach programs.

Liberals believe in giving people chances, instead of relegating them to an endless cycle of poverty. We believe equality isn't something that happens on its own, and needs a little nudge from time to time, with programs that help those born without advantages. Those "useless" programs help create a more level playing field, so we don't devolve into a society of those who are born with everything, and those who are born to serve those with everything.

I highly recommend that anyone who thinks social programs are "useless" should go out into their community, and volunteer with one. Go out and work with kids who are born with two strikes against them, and see the good that happens when you give them a little extra help. Then tell me that those programs are "useless".

And honestly Grace, whenever I read questions like this, I see someone writing from a place of privilege. You think programs and services are useless because you've never needed them. You've never been in the position of not being able to help your child with their homework, because you work three menial jobs, and so does your husband, and that's what it takes to keep a roof over your family's head, and food on the table. Walk a mile in those shoes, and then tell me that social programs are "useless".

California is already a welfare state, and if as you suggest removing the cause of that welfare CA would collapse. That would be a really good thing for Californians and US.

Uber lefties today are just Anti Americans talking like domestic terrorists

lisavollrathposted 6 years agoin reply to this

Nobody on welfare can afford to live in California for very long, so I find your argument flawed.

Calling people like me domestic terrorists, instead of developing a valid argument, is just lame. Be gone, before someone drops a house on you, too.

Excellent answer. I work with people in those useless programs in Seattle; and the ignorance so many conservatives have about this subject has always been astonishing to me. Have they never known anyone on these programs that they don't despise?

Lisa, you are an IDEAL liberal, one who I have discussed things intelligently with in the past.  Unfortunately I feel you are the minority when it comes to those who claim to be Liberal.  If you represented the majority of Libs, I'd probably be one.

I had just wrote and article on Liberals, interesting question.

The 'Liberals' are a conglomeration of desires and beliefs... some want Socialism, Communism, Globalism, the complete destruction of America as it is so that 'something better' can be built upon its ashes.  So to say they want a "Big Welfare State" doesn't really cover it.

In some ways, what they want is far more destructive to the 'American Way' than you could think.

And what is the American way?

Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

That is it.  Its not about rights to Housing, Food, Healthcare, etc. for all... those are Socialist contraptions.  That has nothing to do with what this country was founded on, what the 'forefathers' believed in.  Not to say they wouldn't support such social supports, but that was not their intent.

So... how much Liberty and Freedom to pursue Happiness have we lost?

How much will we lose in the future under a Socialist or Marxist or Globalist agenda/government?

One only has to look at countries that have tried these venues before, Russia (U.S.S.R.), Venezuela (doing so well today, a country/government Obama praised more than once during his 8 years), are two examples of countries that pursued 'government control' Socialist/Communist states.

Not to say we are doing much better today in America, our government is becoming as nearly as corrupt, incompetent, and burdensome to the people as all the former nations that collapsed under such burdensome governance.

Currently, the overwhelming majority of BOTH parties, are two sides of the same coin. They are corrupt, they are paid off to do the bidding of the corporations, banks, or whatever trillion dollar entity comes along and wants something done... to include foreign powers like Saudi Arabia and China.

The current Dem VS. Rep squabbles are a show being put on... McCain, Pelosi, Waters, Graham... these politicians all have over 30 years in D.C. ... over 30 YEARS!!!

And they have been there for all the problems, the Mortgage Crisis, NAFTA, CAFTA, etc. they are the reason things are so bad... funny how these relics stay in office no matter how bad they do.
