Pls forgive me, I don't usually do anything like this but my daughter was performing, together with the other college students at their last show ever (as a group) at a venue in Cardiff, Wales. Thought you might like to hear her. It was recorded on my phone so not the best quality (sounds much better on a decent speaker). She's 17 and wrote the song herself. And the whole show was based on their recent trip to Nashville.

      Good strong voice.

Where in Cardiff was that? I was a student there, a long time ago. They still had cider bars on Queen Street, low dives rather than opera in Tiger Bay and I was miraculously taller than almost anyone else.

It's the Globe Centre in Albany Road, Roath. Used to be a cinema many moons ago. No 'proper' bars on Queen Street now, just restaurants. Remember the Pig & Whistle? All gone.

You probably still would be taller than anyone else, Will, esp me big_smile

Had a girlfriend in Roath. Rather posh. I lived in Grangetown. Not at all posh, lol. We did have wild horses now and again, though. The police used to lasso them.

Anyway, best of luck to your daughter. The UK music industry is no bad thing to get into.

She's so poised and confident at 17. You can tell she loves being up there on the stage. Thanks for sharing your talented daughter!

That's lovely, thank you. Will pass on your kind words.

Tegan's a little less confident in 'real life', but lights up when she's on stage. In Sept. she begins a degree course in commercial and popular music. She would love to write music for TV, movies, podcasts, etc. That song was based on the Adventure Zone podcast.

She's got a great voice, but I'm even more impressed by her songwriting! Very talented, especially given that she's so young.

Yes, that's where her future lies, I reckon. She's a competent performer, but song writing is her thing. She taught herself by writing new lyrics for Taylor Swift songs when she was 11-12. You never heard search a racket. She would play the song, complete with original lyrics and caterwaul her new ones over the top. She says now that that's how she learned song structure.

You shouldn't apologize, you're giving us a little gift. smile I would love to see Wales. It seems amazing. I live in Nashville, we should trade. wink It would be awesome if your daughter could be on Songland.

Besides her beautiful voice, songwriting is a great skill. Her good looks don't hurt either.

She's got a good voice and I can't say who but right at the start the pitch and vocals did sound similar to a voice I know from an artist I heard growing up, at home from some readers digest CDs if I'm right, most likely country western music. I'm super bad at names, can't recall the name nor the songs of that person.

By the other place do you mean the topical forums? xD

Impressive! Playing an instrument and with a strong, beautiful voice is marvelous. She's lucky to have you as her mom, who supports her and encourages her to pursue her dream.

Thank you, Jan. She's doing a full set at an original songwriters' event at the end of the month. And... and... she just got awarded Student of the Year in Performing Arts at college.

      I know, I couldn't be more proud big_smile

Well I like her already! Attractive women who can play the guitar, and she sings very well, you've clearly passed on the talent genes.

LOL! I can't hold a note to save my life. I sound like a demented sheep.

My mother bought her a lovely semi-acoustic, case, and amp last week after she won £900 at bingo! My 80 year old mother took a trip down to a nearby guitar store and came back with exactly what the kid wanted.
