Something magical or special happens when one relies on a Higher power for many in 12 step groups. It's LIFE CHANGING.

Face it, we CAN"T do it on our own. We can't face huge difficulties in life on our own. Regardless of what they are.

Having Faith keeps people honest, truthful, it inspires them to be better.

Following Jesus, in my opinion, is the best way. And the only way. He was perfect in everything He said and did. His example. His birth was foretold in the Old Testament in hundreds of places, and He fulfilled every one.

He is the Messiah. As foretold. He rose from the dead. He is the ONLY religion/spiritual belief in which the one you are worshipping is ALIVE. Mohammed is dead. Buddha is dead. ETC.

We need Faith, Hope and Love to have a happy, fulfilling life. No one has an EASY life, we all suffer. Some choose to fill their "God hole" with alcohol, drugs, sex, food, etc.

It's healthier to have Jesus, not only in this life, but He promises eternal salvation.

So, basically, you may say you think there is no God according to science or whatever.
But, did this universe create itself? Can a book create itself? No, there has to be a DESIGNER.....

Just saying....Once I made my connection with God (Jesus) real....my whole life got better.
And if I don't Maintain it, I end up feeling depressed or unhappy.

So, regular contact with Jesus/God is my ONLY option to stay healthy, happy, peaceful etc.

In the Our Father prayer we are taught to forgive, which is essential to Serenity.

I'll end with the Our Father, as it really is such a helpful prayer. God bless !!

Our Father, who art in heaven
    Hallowed be thy name
    thy kingdom come
    thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread
and FORGIVE US OUR TRESSPASSES (sins)
As we forgive those who trespass (sin) against us.....
And lead us NOT into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen!!!

Just saying that out load is a POSITIVE AFFIRMATION.
    and .....in Psychology....Positive Affirmations Work!
    In fact-
EVERY WORD WE SPEAK HAD AN EFFECT ON US,
So it's wise to try to only say positive things......

Faith is indeed helpful, particularly if it is not questioned closely.  The reality of a god is not.  Only the faith that there is one.  It helps many get through tough times to think that something else, besides their own efforts, is going to fix it all.  Hope is a strong thing, and without it many will simply give up.

You say there must be a designer of the universe.  While this may be your opinion (faith) there is nothing to indicate that it is true.  To date no observations of reality support the concept.

Perhaps you say that because you never experienced faith?

I never have, at least as you define it.

But neither have you experience reality...as I define it.  Faith overrides, and you do not know what reality is.  IMO, of course.

I'd rather have faith and be happy than to be bitter

Me, too.  But living in reality while happy is best of all.

It's all in what one wants, isn't it?

                We all have free choice.
                Yes.

I was not always a born again Christian.  I was 33 when I became born again.
So, you can't say that I've never had reality. That's your opinion.
I'm glad you haven't suffered much and didn't need God.
But then again it's better to know God IMO.

Having walked in both shoes, I prefer depending on myself, both to solve problems and to create a code to live by.

It all depends on the person.  Some put great pride in being all they can be, in guiding their own footsteps through life.  Some do not feel competent to solve their own problems or guide their own way through life and are willing to set aside the total lack of evidence for a God in preference to faith there is one.  Some people want that "father figure" guiding their actions and lives, some prefer to do it themselves.

I have faced many difficulties in my life on my own regardless of what your abstract realities dictate for you. Projection is also a thing in psychology, and you are a great example of the biases and insecurities that create projection.  The things you ascribe to a higher power, I ascribe to my own ability to differentiate between the conscious weaknesses and subconscious strengths that overcome said weakness.

Colloquially I disagree with the idea of a higher power, but if my subconscious mind is a higher power at the literal level then I have faith in the god that dwells only within me, and it differs vastly, and unarguably from the abstract reality others ascribe it to.

In such a subjective topic as higher powers it is dangerous to land on a solid claim of any single individual being correct on behalf of anyone else. One truth cannot overcome another even when they conflict, and that is the beauty of individualism.

There's a fantasy cult that once chanted, "Every I for the We," and I've always found it to be as laughable as it was relatable to real-life. I envy those who live in a reality where there is a universal, "We," but it just doesn't hold true for the majority no matter how hard some would push that abstract, subjective thought.

You can say what you like.
I have suffered more than you'll ever know.
Only God could get me thru it.

        have a good day

I wasn't trying to question, nor invalidate your suffering and abstract reality. No need to get defensive of your more-than-valid beliefs.

We do not need a God to face difficulties and overcome them.
There are millions of people who do not believe in any God or Gods, and still have good lives, overcome difficulties, try the best. And live the life at the fullest as they know there will not be a second chance.

I was reading a article by Val something he wrote an article about religion and it was interesting.

He doesn't believe in religion but he asked people that do to comment on his article and questions.

I left a comment and I thought about it today after watching a movie.

When I think about history in the future I think about this world and how as Val says there's a lot of evil in it.

But there's also a lot of good in it.

I believe that if there was no God and that if we were just relying on our flawed human nature which everybody knows is flawed whether you're an atheist or a believer....

If there was no God then they would be no goodness in the world.

I think the flawed human nature would completely take over.

It is only the inspiration of God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit that leads people to give to the poor and do kind things I mean don't most people give in the name of Jesus or God?

And in the same way as a result of free will there is evil in the world because not everyone chooses God or goodness.

But God didn't create robots he didn't make us with a fixed will he gave us Free Will and that is the only way that we can love him by choice.

I don't blame God for wanting us to love him by choice because I certainly want to be loved by choice.

I think our desire is humans to be loved by choice comes from God.

But anyway getting back to my point if there was no God I think this world would fall apart even more.

We have had difficult times in history we have had times of slavery we have had times of Oppression imprisonment terrible things that Hitler did and so on and so forth.

      History repeats itself.

Luckily we have had times of peace and prosperity are country of the United States was founded on good principles and on God.

But just as the Israelites didn't obey God and the Ten Commandments and they fell away and sinned, our country has fallen away.

Our country used to have more believers but instead lately we have had more abortions and we have had sex trafficking and all kinds of evil in our country God will certainly not reward. Sin.

Also if we're not careful and if we don't start following God our country could lose  freedom.

It has always been the goal of greedy leaders to try to rule others by enslaving them.

All throughout history with kings and queens many times if you had a bad king or dictator because basically a king can be a dictator if you had a bad King you'd be up schitt's creek and people would be overly taxed and they would wait until they were so badly oppressed to fight back.

Some people say that you're in these modern times have I start and people who are leaders in the world that want to rule like a king and put slavery.

This could be what's going on currently with covid-19.

It makes sense to many many people who have been talking about it here on hubpages.

We have very intelligent people in this community thankfully I have learned from them.

When you create a disease like covid-19...you can enslave the world thru FEAR.

The bottom line that I'm getting to is without God we have no freedom.
Because they will come a day that only God can help us.

It already is that way now but not everyone realizes it.

And there will always be people that never realize it because their eyes are not open.

For those that believe in these conspiracies and say there is no hope and no way out I will say that God is the way out of every trouble and thank you for your comment about saying that I should keep believing because that is the answer keep believing.

        God is just a word
If I say God is love and everyone is God. Than I would feel better, although just not fact
