can you tell your best movie director and why you think
he/she is the best?
Definitely Alfred Hitchcock. He understood better than anybody how to manipulate suspense and keep the viewer on the edge of his/her seat. Take the scene in North by Northwest when Cary Grant is in the middle of nowhere. Hitch has him standing, waiting for maybe five minutes and you know something's going to happen and still he makes you wait, pushing it to the edge, building the suspense until something finally happens.
I like steven Spielburg myself. He has wonderful style and I love his camera angles and story telling abilities.
U r right dude .I'm a Big fan of Spielburg.
I like Steven Spielberg very much, and am very much thrilled by many
of his movies.
But what do you think about other great directors like Martin Scorsese, Guillermo del Torro and Tony Scott
do you have to check before you can post a topic?
Big fan of Martin Scorcese movies. Has he ever made a flop?
Guillermo del Toro is brilliant....Pan's Labyrinth was amazing.
Favorite director....that is hard...Sam Raimi (Evil Dead series...not so much Spider-man), Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings was spectacular in regards to cinematography), Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch and Day Watch) and Coppola would have to be favorites...
how about the female directors?
surely they should not be left out
of the fray.
TIM BURTON all the way!!! I was always enchanted by his films. The nightmare before christmas is a beautiful classic. I cannot wait to see 9!!! (release date 9-9-09) how catchy! I'm literally jumping out of my skin waiting for his version of alice in wonderland.
Martin Scorsese. If you watch "Raging Bull", it is literally poetry in motion. Not to mention, he has made some of the greatest films of all time. His directing style is extremely polished and always new and beautiful to watch.
Quentin Tarantino, P.T. Anderson, and Sergio Leone are honorable mentions as well.
It's hard for me to pick just one, but a short list would include Martin Scorsese, Guillermo Del Toro, Wes Anderson and Wong Kar Wai.
I often know the directors whose movies I don't want to see, but with the kinds of movies I like I often have no idea of who the directors are.
Hayao Miyazaki is my fave filmmaker in general...I'm such a kid. :]
From Those Dead I'd Say Raj Kapoor & From The Living It Has To Be Dev Anand & Mahesh Bhatt!!!
I would say my favorites are Scorsese and Hitchcock for their genres. John Hughes, Harold Ramis and Judd Apatow for comedy, even though they are writer/directors.
P.T. Anderson is probably my favorite contemporary director. Guillermo del Toro is really good as well, but only has 2 movies that I believe really excel (Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth). Peter Jackson has a fantastic directorial eye, but I fear he tends to be a tad bit too sensationalistic and superficial for my taste.
Best of all time? Probably Stanley Kubrick. His best movies have a very signature style but are nothing alike (Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Shining, A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket). He's truly legendary.
My favorite film director is Woody Allen, although others mentioned (Hitchcock and Kubrick) are wonderful too!
Woody Allen is a good one. You get a good idea of what a person is like when they make that choice, too. :-)
Martin Scorsese and Michael Mann. Amazing storytellers.
Steven Spielberg, tim burton and riddley scott.
piece by piece master movie makers
I love the Cohen brothers, Quentin Tarantino and, sometimes, Spielberg (Minority Report was his best IMHO). Woody Allen is hit-or-miss for me.
Ben Dover......... Only joking, will have to be Quentin Tarantino

A few years ago, Martin Scorsese was quoted as saying that he feels that the "Star Wars" franchise has robbed one of hollywood's best and creative directors. What are your thoughts on this though? Did Star Wars rob Hollywood of one it's best directors of all time? Or is...

Who is you favorite director/filmmaker?I am writing a hub series on music in film that focuses on directors and the composers/songwriters they have collaborated with over the years. I was interested in learning which directors fellow hubbers would be interested in reading about.

Who is your favourite film director?

Just saw the movie The Wolf of Wall Street with Leonardo DiCaprio, directed by Scorsese and in their defense they stated: “We wanted to take the audience on that journey, and so we don’t ever see the wake of that destruction until the very end, where they implode. It was a very conscious decision...
