    Hello.

My name is Bill Rowe and I am starting this topic to talk about Social Networks and how they relate to internet marketing.

I have joined a few of them and find them to be a gold mine of knowledge and learning business growth strategies.

There are some that I use where you can find many many prospects and leads.

I would like to know if anybody is using Social Networking in their business endeavors and how they are using them.

      Hi Bill!

I started off teaching others how to use Squidoo with my Social Networking on Squidoo eBook (now writing a Hub Pages one). I also wrote Twitter Traffic.

There's a lot to be learned about effectively leveraging these sites without a.) breaking TOS and b) breaking community etiquette. So many people (hey, even myself from time to time) have a faux pas and do something the wrong way.

But the profit potential is HUGE.
Not AdSense or co-op money, but links and branding.

I have been a member of MySpace for several years, and now a member of Yuwie. In my thinking, social networking is critical- I even wrote a hub about it- with some points on etiquette. There is great potential in increasing your exposure if you use the sites in the right way. Personally though, I'm not going to stretch myself too thin trying to join each and every one. It's just not feasible!

This is a great topic for the forum!

I agree Dorsi. I just joined both MySpace and Yuwie. I really like the MySpace although I keep forgetting I can't post in the forums there yet. I don't know if its just newbies or what but there are a lot of people who really should learn more etiquette. I realize that many are there just to advertise but all of the sites I've visited have places for that. Not to mention the profile area.

I haven't posted in the MySpace forums for years- I usually post a bulletin or put my hubs in my blog-
I got "banned" from MySpace forums years back because I had said something about climate change that made MySpace mad- then a year later all the stuff started coming out about climate change, blah, blah, blah....
I didn't say anything bad but apparently it was too controversial back then!!
So I had to create another profile over there...lol....

Although you could however join all social networking sites, just to add a few links and an original blurb about yourself and point all of your profiles back to your best hubs or sites, check on them every once in awhile, sometimes if allowed, multiple accounts with various linkbacks, in fact I often do this to network all of my profile pages up, I would however only link related niche topic ones to the relevant ones though.

It just isn't feasible to join a lot fo social networks, but Myspace and facebook are good examples of social networks that you can join to gain notoriety. I like to add people on Digg and network on there, It also helps yur page views on Hubpages because your friends usually help you digg topics up.

It's tough to know which social sites to work with. I've made my living for seven years with the old social media sites (forums). But now it seems that before I get the chance to sign up for one I am being pointed to ten more.

And I've never had the time to figure out how they work before I was off to something else. I think the biggest part of any social media site is spending the time on it and getting to know the people. I joined a small little nothing forum the other day but helped out a couple people and ended up signing a client before I left.

I spent about three hours total on MySpace and when I tried to make friends the people were rude and short with me. I think there has been so much spam going through the place that people tend to be a little on edge. Facebook seemed to be a little confusing and I've read so much bad stuff about them I hate to loss my time there.

i have been using youtube, myspace and squidoo to promote myself and all methods have been working well. As of yet i have not used any paid advertising
On youtube ive created my own personalised channel to brand myself.
On myspace i have been using automatic friend adder software to target people interested in my product and have setup an attractive profile. The key on myspace is to tell your story in your profile so people can relate to  and to no sell your product but simply put a link on your profile to direct them to your squeeze page to opt in to your autoresponder.
For squidoo ive been providing quality content in my lens and optimised it for the search engines. it is currently ranked in the top 10 for my selected keyword in google and yahoo.
the key is to diversify your traffic so you dont put all eggs in one basket

Sorry Sione -  I didnt see this thread - what do you mean the NZ page? on hubpages ? have you tagged the hub with newzealand ? NZ is not allowed as a tag - i usually use NZL.

BTW I am a Kiwi but based in Australia now !

Sione, do you mean when you do a Google search and click "New Zealand"?

HubPages won't show up when you do that, because HubPages is based in the States.

    AVOID THESE SOCIAL NETWORKS

Here are 2 social neworks to avoid and not waste time IF you are promoting a home based business: Tagged.com and Ning.com They both descriminate against ANY MLM and lump them into the scam category!  I have also found that DirectMatches is a waste of time too since everyone there seems to have closed minds about any other home business than what they promote!

THESE SOCIAL GROUPS SEEM TO WORK WELL

Homebizspace.com, AdlandPro.com, and also Fastpitchonline.com  I have had the best results long term from AdlandPro so far, but expect awesome results from Fastpitchonline soon since they do so much for the business person. For more info. on these, you can email me if you wish. I wish everyone great success!
